I have had a Beosound 5 for over 10 years that was connected to my Masterlink system. I now wish to use it as a separate system not connected to anything else. I have set Audio Master to On, Option 1, disconnected from ML, done a reboot and disconnected it from power, but can not get the volume to work.

Also, the user guide shows a Sound menu when set up as I have it but that does not appear. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you connected any speakers to it yet? I had the same issue with mine, but it turned out, that it will only show the sound menu and allow you to adjust the volume once you connect a speaker to it.

Had this with several BS5's. It is a software issue.
After a recovery it will work for sure.

Thanks! By recovery do you mean rebooting?

During booting you get the for recovery. Or via the servicemenu you can perform that. Music library and mots will be saved.

When rebooting it says Beomaster 5 and Beomaster 5 Recovery. It says use up down arrows to select one. I can not get it to change from Beomaster 5 to Beomaster 5 Recovery. Perhaps that means there is a problem with it? Or am I doing something wrong? Nothing happens when I press the arrows.

Hello,

I think you can't use the arrow keys on the beosound 5.

It should work with any USB Keyboard conneted to one of the two USB Ports at the backpanel of the BM5 Unit.

Thanks. Won’t know if that will work very soon. BS5 is wall mounted with BM5 on another floor of the house hidden away, so not very easy to do.

You can connect a monitor to the BM5 Unit.

There's an unused DVI-I connector at the rear of the BM5. Just plug the monitor in, add a keyborad to one of the rear USB connectors of the BM5 and restart the BM5/BS5. right after the B&O logo it will show the Beomaster 5 Boot and Beomaster 5 recovery option for about 5 seconds.

You can enter the servicemenu on the BS5. Pointer on settings, then ><>< GO. The menu will enlarge with extra options. One of them contains also the option for recovery.

Thanks! That worked and got me to the recovery option and was able to activate. Unfortunately, it started to recover, went through several different displays, and has now locked up saying Preparing Hard Disk. Looks like it has reached the end of it’s life. I was thinking of getting rid of it anyway.

Edit

Looks like it has come back to life and is proceeding with the recovery.
