Just a quick advice on which system would be better, futuristically speaking - Beosound 5 or Beosound 5 Encore? I'm asking his coz B&O is terminating master link and moving towards network link. In this respect, which one is more futuristic a purchase?

I actually think that when the ML is gone the BS5 and Encore are replaced with something else..

Get the one you like or have the need for. I have the BS5 since I have a BV10 with surround in the same room. So getting the encore was not an option for us. If I would not have a BV then I would probably think one more time of what I would have..

Do you have a tv in the same room today or are you thinking of getting one?

Beosound 5 has it's own storage device (harddrive).

As an extra feature, you can rip your cd's.

Mots function

Beo6 2 way functionality

Works probably smoother when searching through content on the harddrive than from nas or usb stick.

I agree with this sentiment

In addition to the other comments, the BeoSound5 as opposed to the encore can show a picture sideshow as it is connected to the BeoMaster.

But I would wait to see what is coming out.

If you have an ML-setup today, the BS5/BM5 combo is the obvious choice - with the current firm- and software my BS5 has worked non-stop for 1+ year now. I am considering adding an Encore in another room as this will access the BM5, and after trying this out in another house I found it to work very well - and as the GUI is the same this works much smoother than the two-way Beo6.

You can pick up 2nd hand Encore's for decent money these days to add on to your BS5/BM5 setup.

There was a rumour regarding a major software update last October... but nothing so far. Perhaps B&O already gave up this system? It needs "AirPlay" or a way of accessing services such as Spotify in order to justify its existence IMHO.

They both have MOTS!

My crystal ball is very cloudy about the future.  The Encore doesn't have any link capability so I'm not sure what is futuristic about this.  I guess having no link means it is "future proof" in some sense Surprise .  The BS5 does have ML (which is on the way out), but if you are currently using other ML products, then you can use them together right now, and in the future as well... at least until you buy a product that only support NL (and then you will need to buy one or more, possibly overpriced, converters).

To those who say wait, I can appreciate this opinion - digital music is still a rather dynamic and changing market, it doesn't seem like either BS5 has been a sales breakthrough - so it is only logical to assume B&O has something up coming... then again, there are many, many predictions found on this forum that never came to pass - many, it seems, are mostly based on wishful thinking).  However, given the speed at which B&O releases products, you might be waiting a long time.  If you like it, and it does what you want, and you have the money, then buy it.  If not, don't.  I enjoy mine BS5 almost every day (I work from home and listen to music most days which means a lot of MOTs and a lot of N.Radio as I can't be bothered with choosing every single song throughout the day).

I guess the BS5E is quite a bit cheaper so if you go that route and B&O does come up with a replacement, at least you haven't spent as much money.

For me, I wouldn't entertain a BS5/BM5 combo (I owned this combo for 3 months, a few years ago). The BM5 is a large PC in a square black box, running Windows XP. You'd be far far better off buying a 2TB NAS drive and using it to rip your FLAC tunes and Blu-ray movies, then access this NAS drive from various sources, whether it's an iPhone, PC or an Encore.

If you can justify the cost, go for the Encore and use it to pull the content from the NAS drive.

As a cheap skate who hasn't bought a CD for years or anything off Itunes since subscribing to Spotify, how would the Encore help me if i had a Beovision 10-46 and Beolab 9 combo?

Currently using an Ipad 1 on the dock of a A8, but how would you best get the music to the TV and therefore the speakers? When i use Airplay it still gets the odd blonde moment, which is not cool mid air guitar Embarrassed. Would rather something more reliable. Spotify-Encore-TV-speakers maybe?

Just asking

ps not interested in ripping CD's or even using my phone Ipad to control it.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hi Chris,

You can connect the Encore to the eg.  the pc or camera input of your BV. Even with a scartplug with line-in. Use the powerlinksocket of the Encore for the connection to your telly. And then set Opt. 4 to the Encore. Leave the BV in option 1 or 2. Select link source and voila.  Music from the Encore to your beloved speakers. One thing, set the volumewheel to a line-level you like and leave it that way.

With a Beo5 or 6 it is much easier. A macro will help with source selection without turning the telly on. Just some ideas.  One-button control.

It's just so easy and simple.

Well i have a Beo 6 but not the 9's yet. Was going to get a 7-55 on offer here, but not until i have sold my 10-46. Silly offers means that plan B gets under way ie Beolab 9 and maybe an Encore(don't laugh Moxxey its in the budget)

Maybe.

Chris, I have seen your BV on eBay. Very nice colourset. Some BV7-55 are good priced. A terrific combination with BL9's. And then easy to access your music from the Encore. A nice wishlist.  Succes with your selling & buying.

To be honest I'm off to Dubai this weekend for a pre job look around, and looking at the properties the company supply, I think they are more conducive to a wall mounted TV(cedre villas, Silicon Valley Dubai. Check images)

Either way I want more sound back. Lots more.

I'd go for it, if it's justifiable (in the budget). I do like the Encore.

As for better sound - yes, I miss my BV7 for that reason. You could go for an ex-demo flat screen 65" BV12 with BL9 combo in the new Dubai place? You can pick up a BV12 for under £10K and BL9s would certainly add the sound you require.

I know someone who has just moved from Bath to Dubai and is loving it.
