What the heck did I do to my BeoCenter 2500 doors?!

Ok, so as I mentioned earlier in the Beolab 4000 MkII thread, when I was setting up my new speakers the doors opened while I had my hand on the unit by accident and got stuck. I tried to close them and eventually they closed on their own.

Now here's the really crazy part. I then noticed that they were getting stuck open when the unit was on and playing a source. HOWEVER... if I place the unit in standby OR even MUTE the source, the doors will close (and open and shut just fine when I wave my hand in front of the unit).

So now any time the unit is ON and PLAYING the doors are stuck open until I mute it or put it in standby. Surely this is some kind of "feature" or logic that needs to be re-learned or something but I don't know how. I even unplugged the power from it for about 30 seconds to no avail.

Any ideas? We have a dog and that tape mechanism is going to get real nasty real quick if I can't get these doors to shut.

EDIT: Now things are just getting weird. I am using the power link cables that originally came with the BeoSystem 2500 and the BeoLab 2500 speakers. It appears that weird things begin to happen when the speakers are connected and unmuted. The door will stay open, and if there is music playing via A. AUX, the 2 way communication between the BeoCenter 2500 and the BeoLink 7000 becomes interrupted and unreliable. How is this new pair of speakers causing all this system interference! Are the BL4000s too "new" for the BC2500? Are the cables on the 2500 too "old"? I thought there wasn't anything terribly fancy about the BL4000s.

I'm seriously about to seek out a BeoMaster 6500 or 7000 (what I should have bought to work with my BeoLink 7000 in the first place) and scrap (sell or store) the BeoSystem 2500 entirely. I'm having all kinds of intercompatibility issues with this otherwise very pretty machine.

Man, I am such a B&O n00b still...

Alright. So as best as I can figure. My problem seems to stem from the old power link cables that went with the BeoLab 2500s. I noticed that if I plugged in the left BL4k into the main 2500 unit just a little ways, without fully seating it, the speaker would sound, AND the doors would close. However if I pushed the power link connector ALL the way into the socket on the 2500 OR if I had BOTH speakers plugged in simultaneously, the doors would not close. I have no possible clue in my non-Danish mind how the power link sockets are affecting the doors and the IR communication with the BL7000 but whatever it is what it is.

Would I be correct to assume that newer Mark III Power Link cables should fix this problem? If so, where is the best place to obtain power link cables for us Yanks? Ebay is pretty much the only place that comes to mind unless I have a better suggestion.

I was going to try and be clever and run the existing power link cables in series from one speaker to another, but unfortunately B&O had the absolute forethought to make the cables JUST long enough for each 2500 speaker on each side of the cabinet. So the power link cables I have are not long enough to run the speakers in series.

I sure hope this isn't doing damage to the 2500 main unit somehow. I normally leave it on all the time, but until I can obtain power link cables (which of course are no where to buy locally in my area) I'm just going to have to mute the speakers when I'm not using it to get the doors to close.

Why would you leave the BC2500 on all the time? Huh?

Too long to list....

Place the speakers next to each other and daisy-chain them just to test your theory. You shouldn't need Mk III powerlinks unless you have new BL 4000's with the Ice amps.

I see nothing at the foot of this page or any other page in this forum but grey space. So not only did that not help me, it took way longer to type all of that out than just give me a link or even the name of the vendor.

In any case, I found a guy on Ebay, "beoken" who manufactures MkIII cables in many different sizes and has the 1m size for 9.99 GBP and ships worldwide for free, so I just ordered those.

But thanks anyway.

No you're right. They are ICE powered so for whatever reason they need the MkIII cables. Guess I'll just have to mute it when I'm done using it until I find a pair of MkIII cables to go with the speakers.

As for the person who asked why I leave it on all the time. Just personal preference so that it will always be at the ready when I turn on my TV, which in turn is my "component switcher" that breaks out to all of my other devices providing audio. Also, while I love playing with BL7000, it isn't always handy and doesn't seem to play well when the BC2500 is in "AUX" mode. My other Harmony universal remote ONLY controls volume on the BC2500, so if I really wanted to turn it off and every time, I'd have to get up and press the button. Other than the small lamps in the CD and cassette sections I don't think there's a whole lot of differences going on inside the unit since technically standby isn't "off" anyway, and there's no amplifier inside it. One very interesting thing about the BL4000s is that they have a signal sensing line audio input. So once I get the right cables, I'm actually wondering if having them switched to LINE will defeat the On/Off amp signal from the BeoCenter and make the amps in the speakers come on and off automatically, too, when source audio is passed. That would be perfect.

You should see 4 adverts by some of the sponsors of this site. One of them is Soundsheavenly who also make and sell cables and ship worldwide for free. Do you not see these adverts on your screen??

I have no experience of cables from Beoken who is based about 10 miles from me.

No, now that I think about it it's very likely due to some kind of ad blocker in my browser which I probably activated months ago due to some offensive site. I'll keep Soundsheavenly in mind for all my future cable needs. Thanks!
