Hey Everyone.

As I work through setting up my first B&O system here, you may remember I got my BL7000 first and THEN got an audio component system that would work with it secondarily, since I was always a fan of the BL7000 growing up. I chose the BeoCenter 2500 because of the two way communication functionality and the fact that it's still a very handsome modern looking art statement after all these years (though I kind of want to change the incandescent bulbs in the CD and Tape to cooler glowing LEDs of some sort, but I digress).

My BL7000 is a type 1542 with RDS and SW v2.1. Not sure what software version is on the BeoCenter, but at first I thought my BL7000 had the dreaded bad cap problem is I would continuously get "NO CONTACT" on the display. Well, I finally figured out that I needed to remove "RADIO" from the BL7000 component selection screen whilst the BC2500 was in standby mode.

So now, everything works fine in CD or Radio modes, but any time the BC2500 is in AUX mode, which is what I will be using 99 percent of the time, if the BL7000 goes to sleep and then you wake it up, you get NO CONTACT. I have to physically press "A. AUX" on the BL7000 and THEN I get my current volume and everything else as normal. If I duplicate this in the CD or Radio modes, the BL7000 wakes up fine without having to press Radio or CD to get current statuses. If the BL7000 has already made contact, and I place it on the charger while the BC2500 is in AUX, it will MAINTAIN connectivity with the BC2500 continuously and will even reflect volume changes I make from my Harmony remote control. If I go FROM A.AUX to CD or Radio I get a temporary "OPERATION CONFLICT" error on the 7000s display, but it doesn't seem to cause any other issue.

So is this simply a software version mismatch, or does the BC2500 have an inherent issue where it does not transmit status data in AUX mode because there is nothing relevant to transmit (except for volume of course)? Just wondering if I need to sell this BL7000 and get a newer 1633 model with 3.1 software, OR if I should just live with this. I may replace the BC2500 with a BeoMaster 6500 (I heard the 6500 doesn't suffer from the mainboard cap issues the 7000 does) or a 7000, but for now I'd like to continue utilizing the BC2500.

I originally posted this in the workbench section but have since discovered that area is dedicated to teardowns and repairs so I'm posting here instead.

Congratulation to Your system! :)

The problem You mentioned seems to me as a real SW mismatch, as I just checked my 7000/3.1 and the 2500, and it seems, this is the "regular" work for A.Aux, my remote and system acts absolutely the same as You described, except, my says "Operation mismatch" after the remote powers on from the standby and if it was in AUX and pressed RADIO.

It seems, as it's an "other" component, it hasen't got this option, however I think, the reason is different: IMHO the A.AUX means a B&O device on the A.AUX port, so in this case the BL7000 looks for a B&O device on the A.AUX port, as it doesn't find anything, there will be a "no answer", or "operation mismatch" resolution, against to simply use the A.AUX port.

I think, this is a mismatch, because usually You don't have any B&O equipment on A.AUX. but as Ridax had solution for use this port for Ipad if I remember well, maybe in this case the A.AUX can work as it should be. But this is just a thought.

There is only one thing is sure: You will not get what You want with a 3.1 version BL7000, so for this reason You don't need to replace the remote.

Wow. Thank you very much for testing all of that for me.

And I think you're absolutely right now that I think about the way B&O expects the AUX port to be used. It must be expecting another B&O device on the A.AUX and when that doesn't occur, it says NO CONTACT because it thinks some other device will be returning a response.

Now, here is the ONLY curious thing... On the BeoMaster 7000, it works perfectly. So even if I have my AUX input adapter connected to the AUX port of the BM7000 (i.e. not a B&O device) it will wake up in A.AUX just fine, and display the volume consistently and constantly if its on the charger.

It's too bad about this because it's the only minor thing that keeps the BL7000 and the BS2500 from being completely harmonious.
