Hi guys,
I recently got a BeoLab 5000 & BeoMaster 5000 for free. As I am only into modern B&O stuff I am curious to know the value of this system. From what I can tell through searching google is that it is of quite high value.
The system is fully working. There are some scratches to the wood on the top of the two units and the writing on the volume meter is almost gone from sliding the clip. Pictures below.
Any comments would be appreciated and if any of you guys are interested just send me a message
BeoVision Eclipse 55, BeoPlay S8 (sub+rears), BeoPlay A9 MKII (living room), BeoVision Avant 32 DVD (retro gaming, basement), BeoLab 4000 (entertainment room, basement), BeoSound 8 (workshop), 2x BeoPlay S3 (PC), BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay H2/H3 (on the go)
There is fully working and fully working! Most of these sets will need extensive servicing and the worn volume figures are a very common fault. However the wood finish on yours is particularly nice - I would suggest cleaning that up with some sanding and then either oil or beeswax. Obviously take it off the amplifier first.
Value is very difficult! I have seen these go for as little as £30 a unit and for several hundred. Classic Audio will completely refurbish these and one of these sets deservedly will sell for many hundreds of pounds. Yours is in only fair cosmetic order so lower end of the scale I am afraid.

What Peter said. These are awesome sounding sets when fully set up and working. Unfortunately when they are rough, they sound very average.
I sent mine to Martin and there was a list of problems with each unit, despite them superficially appearing to play after a fashion.
Get them serviced by someone who knows what they're doing. Shame about the volume lettering as it ultimately detracts from the unit, regardless of its internal state of affairs.
Frede is having the front plates remade for his refurbished models.
And there is of course the most desirable 5000 system of all!
Thank you for the answers! I am not able to tell if it is 100% authentic sounding. I just plugged it in and tested to see if it worked
it's a shame they could not spell BLACK properly on the card ( they spell it Back ) , hey ho !
Very nice, is this a one off or was the 5000 system sold in black and silver.

One-off.
Frede made it to commemorate Lee + Peter et al's visit to his workshop a few years ago.
I think you might be being a bit hopeful with your price on ebay. If you look on completed items a similar set that included a record deck and speakers only sold for £270.

Absolutely! TBH that's a ridiculous price to list items that are know not to be 100% fully operational at. Given the cosmetic issues as well, I'd say a BIN price of £400 for the pair would be the best he could hope to achieve on a very good day.
Also came across these! We DO watch eBay a lot here!
I agree, and frankly they are a bit scruffy. I got my Beolab for £150 (mint-ish) and my Beomaster for £100. Not saying this is THE ideal price, I just think it was fair. Also, the eBay prices vary a lot so you should certainly not trust them.

Wow Peter, black ones? A pity your photo is fuzzy!
I WANT A SET !!

Mail Frede, but I am sure he said the black finish is a one off.
