Hi!

I have many older game consoles (nes, snes, n64, ps2...) which are made on crt television era. These older consoles does not look good on modern lcd screens as resolutions are low (even 240 pixels high) and picture is interlaced. Many hobbyist are using crt televisions with older gear, so I am planning to do so as well. Was Beovision Avant 32 a good tv with scart RGB and/or with s-video? And whether anyone used Avant with network video streaming device (apple tv, roku, wd live tv, etc.), will Avant work well with this kind device?

Basically should I even dream about Avant, or consider some other method to get better result with game console?

Good picture and excellent sound. Uses RGB SCART so as long as your console does that, it will be fine. Very good value now.

And the sound should be very good for a tv set? So I do not need separate hifi. If network streaming device will work with crt, then that is a big plus. I am not buying crt as main/livingroom tv, this is going to bedroom/den.

I use Western Digital's WD TV Live with my Beovision3, which has similar inputs to the Avant.  It works very well wirelessly, and has the advantage of a composite output in addition to hdmi.  (The latest Apple TV only has hdmi).

I have yet to find a format that the WDTV does not support, and it has an excellent network remote that you can download to an android device.

Ok, so Avant has some value left in it. I have two problems, my wife is not supporting this :), and second is TV is located about 400 km from my home, so transfer will be difficult. I think Avant should be moved standing on its base? Do you have suggestions how transfer should be performed?

The speakers will certainly perform as a decent audio system - get the DVD version and it works as a decent CD player as well! Best transported upright but you need a van for that. Otherwise carefully wrapped in duvets etc face down in a big car. These are jolly heavy sets though - you will not manage it by yourself! 400km seems like a long way!

Sorry to have to correct you Peter, but NEVER transport an Avant face down. One pothole, and the contrast screen shatters into a million pieces!

I've transported quite a few Avants, and 3 or 4 times I've done almost 1000kms with an Avant in a car. The best way is on its back on an angle. You'll need a station wagon or a small 4WD at a minimum with the seats folded down.

Avants are brilliant, and worth every cent!

Hi there.

Could someone confirm that at least one of the SCART inputs on the back of this Avant will accept an RGB signal?

As they are so cheap, get the very youngest version you can. Remember there was a mk1 Avant and then a Mk2(RF?). Get that as the picture is much better.

Still the best B&O tv ever made, including my 7-55 Mk2

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hi Chris.

I already have the Avant, the details are the ones I posted above. I guess it is a MK1 Avant?

I'm looking to get the best possible image from a Gamecube on it.

Thanks.

You'll be blown away by the picture and the sound of the Avant. A PS2 was perfect on it.

The newer one has a completely flat screen and is fantastic Wink

Thanks Chris. I gather I have the original one, because it indeed has a curved screen.

I can't get over the sound, it is worth having just because of that!!!
