Dear All,

Yesterday I went to my dealer for a BeoPlay A9 demo and was quite satisfied. But the accidentally got the BL 12.3 demoed. Now I'm quite unsecure how to proceed as diffenrent scenarios could be realized.

I will have to decide on two speaker setups as a new speakers will come and existing will be moved to another room. So my first comparison is:

BL8000 MK I + BL2 vs. BL 12.3 (without BL2)

The reason for this change is mainly triggered by optical reasons. Nothing is standing on the floor anymore, a very clean an minimalistic setup. That's why BL2 has to go....

My concern is: will I miss the bass or are BL12.3 powerful enough?

The second comarison:

BL8000 MK I + BL2 vs. BeoPlay A9

They are replacing a BL3500 and will be driven by a BL Active.

I would appreciate your thoughtson that.

I am sure you will get as many views on this as there are members on this forumBig Smile

I would rate the BL8k and the BL12.3 to be fairly equal. Adding the BL2 to either pair will improve the low end. Comparing the BL8k with the BL2 to the 12-3 is easy: the pair with the BL2 will winn.

Same goes for your question regarding the A9. I find the BL 12.1 to be on par, or slightly below, the A9. The BL8k+BL2 is a much better setup than a single A9, add a PlayMaker and you have the same flexibility when it comes to streaming as well.

Hi hfat,

I had a simular setup with BL8000 + Bl2.

Last year I have sold this combination, because I liked the looks of the BL12's

I replaced my set with BL12-3 and added later a BL11. This will give a little bit more bass and the overall sound is more balanced. I'm very satisfied with the sound.Big Smile

The BL2 was too overwhelming in my living room. Sad

For music it is a perfect setup. The Bl2 will give you some more punch at (action)movies, but for more detail and a tighter bass the BL11 is excellent. Mostly I use my setup for listening to music. Don't compare the Bl2 with the BL11. It depends on your needs and what kind of music you play. With enough space in a room a BL2 is good, but sometimes a little bit slow (due to the two passive radiators).

The same goes for the A9. A terrific speaker with a lot of punch and much, much better than a BL3500 (similar to a BL6000 without sub).

The A9 is a single speaker and no stereo speaker. For streaming excellent, in combination with eg. a Playmaker. The sound quality is excellent from the A9.

Conclusion: If you want a stereo setup go for the Bl12-3 + BL11. All these speakers have wall mounts!

For replacing the the BL3500 I would go for the A9 (still needs a lot of space in the room for the sound and then it's not too boomy). Also a wallmount is available.

Just my opinion . . . .

I own the bl3500 and have listened to the a9. The a9 sounds much better, but is not nearly as discrete. Wall mounted, the a9 is pretty cool. If you have the space, a9 all the way.

Thank you all for your feedback,

You confirmed, what I was afraid to hear: I will miss a sub when I swap to the BL12-3.

So I will have to do some considerations in the near future.

I'll kepp you updated.

Hi All,

It took some time, finally I took my decision and installed my new setup yesterday.

I followed BeoHut's advice and moved to BL12-3+BL11 to replace BL8000+BL2.

I decided against BeoPlay A9 to replace BL3500 in the second room and use the BL8000s+BL11 via BeoLink Active instead.

BL2 has left the building......

Still some works to do, hiding cables etc.

I'll post pictures when ready. I'm really happy with the BL12. These are my first speakers with acoustic lens technology. Really great.

Works are completed. This is the new look, with B12-3 and BL11. Center speaker is a BL7-6.

Yes, the clocktwo looks great. Thank you for the hint to "Vanilla Sugar". I'm also wearing the clocktwo watch.

Lookks great on the wall. How does your bl12 set up compare to your 8000's for music/tv ?

The BL12 are much clearer for the mids and high frequencies (ALT). They do not deliver the bass performance the specifications let expect. So the BL11 is very useful. It is a metter of personal taste, but in my opinion music is clearer and more balanced with BL12 than with BL8000. The BL2 I had in the combo with BL8000 did allow playing at much higher volume, where BL11 gets to it's limit. For me, BL12+BL11 is the perfect combo for music (played not at extreme volume) and watching TV.
