Thanks Steffen for your link information. If I understand, Philips sold his Know-How to TPV. Anyway, I saw on the official link that designers and technicians are European based in Belgium. Yes Raeuber, maybe next year the new CEO - Mantoni will sell either BeoTV branch for his favourite chinese customers !! Crazy world.

BeoLab 14 is coming. A subwoofer with satellites. Like a danish Bose System !

Hoping I am wrong but Bang & Olufsen will realize only speakers in the future.

My dealer said: Beo loose money with TVs and nothing comes in Audio components.

Raeuber:
If you ask in this forum which is the best bluray player to use with a Beovision, you always get the same answer: Oppo, developped and made in CHINA,

Probably we will see some other companies who will sell their TV division to China....

Completely off-topic, but as a sideline, I read last night that China has now overtaken Britain in exporting weapons to the world. In fact, some countries who used to buy from Britain, now buy from China, as we've stopped producing certain weapons. China is now the fourth biggest exporter.

How did we get in to this situation? And countries relying on China's software to control their military hardware, after all the recent cyber espionage?

Funny how the world order is quickly shifting to Asia and, ironically, us consumers are to blame. We demand the cheapest products, manufacturers look to the cheapest production plants, which are all in...China, thus boosting their GDP!

I replied about what I think about a future B&O audio system in another thread :)

I'm a Brit and have decided to buy British  as much I can - lots of fantastic UK designed, engineered and manufactured hifi like B&W, Naim, ATC, etc... If that'

If that's not possible the next best thing is to buy European manufactured hifi hence B&O which i love but that's a different story...hope my faith is restored this year!

We are also trying to buy local furniture like Wesley & Barrell etc..sure it's three times as expensive and takes longer to procure but the quality and satisfaction of supporting local jobs is a priority for me now. Frustrates me when i see hoards of Brits in a British concept shop like Laura Ashley but nearly all their stuff is made in a village in China in a sweat shop. Sad, very sad...

Peter:

What does it sound like? I buy B&O for the sound just as much as the picture. This looks very nice but I don't quite see the purpose. The large translucent bit of glass at the base seems to have nothing behind it so is simply a piece of glass. The top is great but if it is that slim, what are the speakers like?

Peter

I ordered it after speaking to my cousin in Holland, he works for a sub contractor who do some very specialised technical stuff for Philips R&D, he is getting one and so are many others out there, the look is very BV10 according to him

I won't be using the speakers on the Philips, I have a huge Yamaha RX-A3020 amp that I bought very recently to go with my faithful Yamaha NS-300 speakers

I have been told that I will not get delivery until mid June 13 which is perfect for me as the lounge is being modified, and sound treated and all cables and power will be hidden behind the walls :-)

my Avant 32 is going to carry on service in the bedroom until it packs in, when it does we will see what B&O have in the way of TV's, if anything in a few years time !

Why everybody says that speakers on Philips TV is bad without listen them ? Maybe they sound good. Technical specifications are 2x15 watts. Not so bad for a slim TV.

But watts says nothing about the sound .. You can easily pack it with a couple of hundred watts if you wanted to. Digital amplifier modules are very compact these days, but there is no point when the sound is coming from a couple of low-budget 1" full range speakers (like in a lot af flatscreens)

True, watts ain't much of a measure of sound quality, but the fact they are rear facing and bounce off the wall isn't a telling thing either. I have a friend who used to work in TV audio, he had a paper he presented at one conference that I found interesting. It was not for high end TVs but it concerned how the fact that putting a speaker behind a grill in a TV cabinet altered the speaker response, and how to use tailoring by both the characteristics of the driver and response tailoring circuitry could be used to make up for such issues. If they take a good design approach it will probably sound better than you might think.

I still think B&O will have far better acoustics and sound, it's something they concentrate on, but for a lot of people the Philips will probably be fine. Or they could be like most TV makers these days, assume that if you're serious about sound you'll have a full home theater sound system anyway. Some people don't really care much as long as it makes noise and they can understand the dialog.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
