I have just received a refurbished Beogram CD 7000 from Denmark. It plays some commercially produced CDs but not all. Some shows "Track" but no track numbers and don't get going. Others show "Track" and track numbers and can therefore be played. Any ideas? Region Coding?

Additional New Symptoms:

  1. I now think I may be dealing with a mechanical tracking or alignment problem.
  2. The CD tray front edge does not lign up exactly with the cabinet.
  3. When closed, the tray is about 1 mm further in on the right compared to left.
  4. CD, when I can get it to play, sometimes plays too fast (double speed).

Any new ideas?

Regards Sven Eriksen, Melbourne, Australia.

It's likely the usual culprit in these units. Search the forum for "c2103". Perhaps changing it to a 47uF cap is what you need..

Hi, Johan - Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that replacing a capacitor will fix a region coding problem? Is this a region coding problem or is it something else? - Sven

To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as region coded CDs. But many people have reported that replacing the 33uF cap with a 47uF (of the same type) has been effective when experiencing these kinds of issues. I suppose there could be something else that's wrong with your player, but changing that cap is dead simple and would the first thing I tried.

Tak så mycket, Johan. You are right, region coding is a DVD only issue. I have contacted the Danish reseller, who happens to be in Struer Denmark (the very home of B&O) to see what they can find out from the horse's mouth so to speak. To replace that capacitor I first have to find it though, which could be a challenge without a diagram and/or a picture. Maybe you can give me another hand if the Struer people can't help. Best Regards Sven

The service manual is available on this site for silver and gold members. But frankly, finding it wont be that difficult. Open the case and have a look. It's on the bottom board (unless my memory fails me) under the large hinged bottom-side-up board.

Also, check flat cables and connectors from mech to electronics for oxidising. It was the reason for one of these players didnt play all recods.

Could not find what you called boards. Tried to upgrade to Silver membership but got "Unfortunatly your account could not be created, an account may already exist with the same username.". Indeed it does, ME. What should I do? Sven

See under CD5500; it covers 5500, 6500 and 7000.
