Sorry guys, but it still doesn't work the way it should. Today, I've purchased the 1611 converter and linked my Beosystem 7000 to my Avant 32 RF (8430). When I press play at the CD the Pentas jump on and show the correct information on the displays but I do not hear any sound. The same applies when using the Beocord. The cassette spins, the correct information appears on the Penta displays but other than that nothing happens. When I use the Beomaster, the speakers make random noise but nothing else than that. I've used a fully wired masterlink cable and a fully wired power link cable plus the aux cable for connection. One Penta speaker is directly connected to the Avant while the other Penta speaker is linked to the first Penta speaker. What could be wrong. Any ideas? Any help is highly appreciated.
Rgds,
Kai
Have you set the options properly - TV option 2 and 7000 option 0? Are the Pentas set to Video? Have you set the front switches to L and R rather than auto? Try unplugging the Powerlink cable...
Peter
Thanks Peter. Options are correct. I didn't bother to check the Pentas today. Will do that tomorrow. However, connecting the Pentas directly to the Beomaster didn't change much except for that the display information on the Pentas got lost. What if nothing of the above works?
I've tried all of the above and nothing seems to work... I hope that it's not the Beomaster that's defective. I do not think so, however. Maybe the converter?
It works now. Don't ask me why. Basically, I didn't change anything except for playing around without any success and then returning to the initial setup. So everything is now the same as when I started except for one difference: it works now...
The Beocord is a great cassette deck by the way by the way. Never would have thought that it is that good. Haven't heard anything about it. Maybe due to it being an old cassette deck and nobody listening to cassettes any longer. But it's really distorting very little. and the Beogram with MMC 2 is also great. Happy that it works now. If I now manage to get two-way with the Beolink 7000; I'm done. But I guess I'll need software 1.3 for the Beomaster in order to achieve that...
Thanks again!
I used the BL7000 in a link room as this would seem to be the main purpose - like having the whole system in front of you. The bit I really miss!
But is there a opportunity to get two-way information on the Beolink 7000 when the Beosystem 7000 is connected to the Avant? I think I've heard something like that you can get two-way for the Beosystem, whereas the Avant is still working one-way. Is that correct and how can it be achieved?
Greetings,
Yes - you need the software , which confusingly is a chip! I had mine updated but that was a good few years ago. Ask your dealer but I am not sure if it is still available.
It took me like two hours to set everything up (tricky environment) just to discover that it doesn't work with converter 1610. So I had to disassembel and reassemble everything to use converter 1611, which cost me 90 Euros. Then I discovered that it again didn't work as it was supposed to. So another two hours of testing plugging and unplugging of cables, pushing switches to different positions and meanwhile unintentionally breaking a lamp later, everything works as it should - until I read your comment... So I guess this means another two hours of disassembling and reassembling... Fortunately, I have a shop nearby that will be able to make the update... Life is hard However, I won't forget the various configurations. Sometimes you learn the hard way.
As far as I remember the BSys7000 was born 2-way.

But if you connect it to the Avant - Option V2/A0 - you won't be able to use the 2-way functionallity in that room.
As Peter wrote - that would work very well from a linkroom.
P.S. I still use that with a MCL-Speakers kit via Beolink 5000 in the kitchen from my 4500 Audiomaster in the mainroom.
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
B&O confirmed to me two years ago that software 1.3 to the Beomaster 7000 is no longer available. But I got it from a Beoworld member, who I believe can make more chips. I can send you his email address if you want?
Hi Magnus,
how does the system work with the chip? Is RDS information also received by the Beolink 7000. Beosystem 7000 without Beolink 7000 is just not as much fun...
How is the chip mounted? This probably will have to be done by a knowledgeable person, won't it? I'd be grateful for the address. What about Ulf. Isn't he an expert for stuff like that?
Thanks again. This really is some effort I have to admit. But at least I can tell good stories once everything is running.
The BeoLink7000 came in two version. The first one without RDS. It could be upgraded to match the second one - but I doubt that these kits are avaiable anymore.
The BeoSystem7000 can be operated with a BeoLink5000 as well - in fact many used that one for 'everyday-use' in those days.
Hi again,
I'm sorry, but I can not comment on how good it works with a Beolink 7000, as I haven't got one! Haven't gotten around to buying one yet... But it works good with my Beolink 5000.
The chip is mounted by taking out the CPU module (I think) in the Beomaster and replacing the chip in there. It's pretty straight forward, but to get the module out you'll have to remove some pretty fragile unmarked cables, so be careful! I'm adding two photos from back when I did it, and I have marked the position of the module in the Beomaster with the red square.
Here's a closeup of the module, and there's the chip sitting in it's socket.
.
And it was indeed Ulf who sold me the chip, so yes – he's the expert!
Magnus
Thanks very much, Magnus. Sounds like a bit of effort. Which surround speaker would you recommend as an addition to the setup of an Avant and Pentas as mains? I was intending to go for Beolab 5000s, but placement is too difficult in my environment. Soundquality of course is important. Beolab 4000s?
Thanks again,
Well, I have almost the same setup as you (BV3 instead of Avant) and I have just bought a pair of Beolab 4000 to use as surround speakers! I think they sound good, look good and is easy to place. I thought about Beolab 4500, but they would be "firing" the sound right over my head, but with the Beolab 4000 I can angle them down so that the sound actually hit my ears. I haven't mounted them yet, so can't comment on the mix of speakers, but I'm pretty sure Peter has the same setup and is very happy with it. So I would say that Beolab 4000 is a good choice!
Thanks again. I've just asked a professional round my corner, who's specialized repairing only BuO for nearly 30 years now. He doubts whether, two-way is possible in a setup of a Beosystem 7000 connected via 1611 to an Avant. So, is there anybody here who can confirm that it actually does work - also in combination with a Beolink 7000?
With the software, it works - had just the system myself.
Thanks, Peter. Last question: Which would be the optimal surround speaker in the setup - Avant 32, DVD2, Beosystem 7000 and Pentas as fronts (love them)? I still do have a pair of Beolab 8000 but am unsure whether they really fit in the environment. However, since optics are hard to judge, which would be the preferred alternative soundwise: Beolab 8000, Beolab 4000, Beolab 3 or Beolab 4500? Beolab 5000 again unfortuenately don't fit properly in the environment. Any other suggestions?
I use Pentas front, BL2 sub and BL4000s rear. I have not found a situation which would make me desire better rear speakers and the 4000s fit nicely on the wall.
Thanks Peter. And what do you do with the cables when placing the speakers on a concrete wall? Use a cable channel? Rgds, Kai
Manbearpig: Thanks again. I've just asked a professional round my corner, who's specialized repairing only BuO for nearly 30 years now. Works fine.
Had also the system many years ago.
Normally the system is set to a master-slave configuration. Where the master is in option 2 and the slave is set to option 0.
Because of the option - setting, the master 7000 to option 0, the ir reception is switched off. Software 1.3 makes it possible to send ir-status back to the beolink 7000 (or 5000) in option 0.
Don't expect to much about the RDS info on the Beolink 7000. It sounds very nice, but it only works for a few seconds. After a few seconds the beolink 7000 swithes automatically off. That can not be changed.
For me it was a rather disappointing discovery. Had of course also the Beolink 7000 RDS, software 1.3 and the 1611 converter.
For me, the setup was limited as it is restricted by it's software. Newer PC, NMusic or NRadio will not work. Not with a Beomedia or PC2Link.
Mine are on a stone wall so cable channel!
