Hi

I was just at my dealer and he met with the people from B&O a couple of days ago. He confirmed to me that a new software update for the BS5 is comming in April - including spottify. No search function - just access to your playlists but that is good enough for me!

Big Smile

EDIT: I have just downloaded the update and Spotify seems to be working fine. Logos for the radiostations is there but not for all stations. I don´t know how my Beo 6 will work yet. There does not seem to be any update for Beo config tool - just yet anyway.

Will this be for the BS5 Encore too?

That would be great!

Spotify - no search function = useless Angry

If you are a Spotify-user, buy the ipad 16GB and a Playmaker - what more do you need?

And sell the BM5/Encore, as long as someone still wants to pay for it.

This is free - that is not the playmaker! Big Smile

....and why would you need to search via BS5? Use your computer to do the searching and the BS5 to play the result!

That's the way I use Spotify at the moment, but if Spotify is integrated in the BS5/E, that would be nice. Idea Not everyone want always to use a smartphone or tablet, but wants the music from an integrated B&O setup. Not always want to charge their mobile devices, but a reliable solution. A software update to use the BS5E, in combination with Spotify and WiFi (Beo6 and BS5e) would also be very nice. Let's wait and see what the update will bring us.

'Free' does not always mean 'good'!.

OK -  probably we are using Spotify in different ways.

If I had to turn on my computer to make a playlist and afterwards turn to the BM5 to play it, it would be a no go for me.

Searching on the iPad-app is what makes things comfortable.

If a computer must be involved - and no iPad, you could use Airfoil to send it to the PM.

As far as I remember Beofan52 already has a Playmaker. UPDATE 14.40 - I see above, that he has!

And...you can get several Playmakers for the money you would get if you sell BM5/Encore.

----

I am just saying, if B&O offers Spotify this way, it is just for the sake of being able to push the BM5/Ecore's before EOL - a marteting-thing!

...so use the Ipad to do your pick and then let BS5 play it. Superb in my opinion. BS5 is an expensive Playmaker but it is always there, "charged" and ready to play. And the feeling with the big display and aluminum wheels are hard to describe.....

Just happy to be in the airplay/spotify community soon.

ECF, I agree.

And I am also very happy with the BS5, and I do like the wheel and navigation, but you have to get used to it. And because of the wheel, your screen is always clean :-)

At our home it would not work using our iDevices to control and play music, there is often someone who calls or a kid who plays on the iThing. I would prefer that the BS5 played the music for me (and maybe using the iThing to start it).

"....or a kid who plays on the iThing."

Of cource you would need a 'dedicated iPad' - not the 'family-iPad' - for this.

You wouldn't let your kids play with your BS5 either, would you?

As long as you are happy with your BM/BS5-thing, all is well!

But don't expect major updates/wonders for it.

When sales go down, it will soon reach the 'end of life'.

A support for Spotify-playlists would give the product one more year - AirPlay-support maybe two more years - before it would be terminated.

Nowadays people want something else.

They want to use what they have in their hands or on the table - because these devises can do it.

AirPlay and also Miracast has been invented.

As the BM/BS5 and the E started years ago, that was the best way to listen to music based on digital files.

If B&O would come up with a Playmaker with a screen same size as the BS5 to display what is playing, we would still have something to 'show off' when friends and family come to visit Embarrassed

But that is a theme for another thread.

Yes, that would be perfect.

If spotify and BS5 really happens I will just be missing the 2-way com with Be6 for the radio stations and a decent app from B&O to control both music and radio.

If you want to use the thing you have in your hand you can connect a Airport express or similar shings to the aux inlet on the BS5.

I can see the need for the possibility to use whatever device to play music. At the same time I want to listen to my music at home, without fiddling with spotify.

It would be a nice feature with spotify on the BS5, but at the same time, people talk about the importance of really good speakers.. Spotify does not give the best quality (at least not to my knowledge) so why bother with expensive speakers? Then you can use Sonos or whatever when streaming music..

I would be like my grandpa age 93 buying a ferrari just to drive the 2 km to the supermarket.. :) Just waste of money..

I know everyone is different and listen to music in different ways..

Not supported and not having the horsepower the full blown Beomedia 5 has are 2 different things.

Remember the Besound 5 is not much more then a display unit. For the encore they just fudged a simple and limited "something" into it, obviously much more limited then a Beomedia 5.

I'm not to familiar with Spotify but as I understand they now offer 320 kpbs quality and that should be enough for me who uses spotify mostly for party music and discovering new music. The newly discovered music will then be downloaded, in lossless WMA, to my beomaster 5 for "high quality" listening. I think that this will suit me perfectly!

We could all learn a thing or 2 from your Grandpa :-)  He worked for his money, so why not.

I wonder if Spotify is coming to cars (ferrari, et al)

I am very happy with my BS5/BM5. Together with beo6 it gives every day pleasure, whether it is radio or digital music. Ipad, computer can never reach this level of comfort and radio sound quality.

So i do not nderstand some reactions on this topic

What is "Spotify" anyway?

Yet another internet gadget that we can't use in the country because we have appalling broadband performance? (512k here)

Sick. :-(

Checked with Denmark yesterday, and the new SW is coming this spring - but this release was also promised last year, with a release date no later than October 2012 Crying

It is not hard to see why the Playmaker is stealing sales from the BS5/BM5.

...and around here some are trading in their BS5/BM5-combo for stuff like BV11´s and Playmakers. B&O do need to hurry upWhisper But we´ve said that since late last summer, when this release would happen no later than October 2012 Big Smile

Just got it "confirmed" that B&O will be running one-day workshops as from late April for their dealers to promote the updated SW for the BS5/BM5.

So it must be just around the corner..

Does that mean there might be more updates than just spotify? A full day to explain how to promote spotify?

It will be interesting to see how Spotify is accessed and controlled from BS5?

Will the MLGW be involved in music navigation?
