"Software update for BeoSound 5 to version 7.00 in April 2013
New features
·Support for music service. We support Spotify on BeoSound 5 which requires a Spotify Premium subscription
Please observe these changes and differences
1.The Spotify account is a single user license, and the last unit that starts playback will stop playback on the other system, that being a smartphone or PC with the Spotify application running. BeoSound 5 will inform that the playback is stopped since the license is usedsomewhere else
2.Long press GO when selecting sub-menus is changed for the Spotify source, and selection is done in the same way as for BeoSound 5 Encore where you can release the GO button while selecting and pressing GO when a choice is made. This is changed neither for N.MUSIC nor for N.RADIO.
3.Spotify as source is only selectable when BeoSound 5 is Audio master and will not be selectable on a BeoSound 5 in source centre mode with another Audio master. This is due to limitations in Master Link."
Neither the information on BS/BM5 on the homepage or the userguide has bin updated!
Looking forward to learn how it actually works from BS5-owners, please.....
Especially how or rather if Spotify can be managed with the Beo6? Maybe even better so than fiddling with the wheel on the BS5
And how to 'Spotify' using the BeoLink-app in a MLGW-setup?

Hmm, all my radio stations in my list were removed, and currently many stations are missing compared to before.
I hope the radio cover thing later will be extended, like in the TuneIn radio App, where you actually can see the cover for the song playing if the station send this out. That would really be a nice feature.

It is just awesome! Much better than expected - easy log-in to your account from the BS5, then you get access to your playlists, what´s new etc. B&O did an excellent job with the integration: after 15 minutes it feels as if Spotify was made for the BS5, excellent and classy integration.
Now, I have to figure out how to get the Spotify-button on the Beo6...

Here is a little update about the spotify.
You add your Spotify acount under settings (it has to be a premium subscription).
In the Spotify menu you can choose between
1) New Releases
2) Top tracks
3) Top albums
4) Playlists.
If you hold down GO on a song, you can add it to the que and you can also add it to one of your playlists.
On my BEO4 the A.MEM is used to start Spotify.
Overall I realy like this new update! The only thing that is missing is a search function...
There is also a function called: START RADIO, which seems to be working kinda like MOTS.
It finds some similar songs from the Spotify library based and the track you choose!
The playlists you make in iTunes are also synced with the spotify on the Beosound!

You can choose different options for your remote under MODE --> SETTINGS --> ROLES :)
If you start using Spotify on your computer when it's running on the Beosound5, then the "laser-light" turns red until you press GO again.
No search function....

It seems so - I am just quoting the official information from Bang & Olufsen!
For those who has an audiomaster in the setup (and the BM/BS5 as 'No audiomaster) this is really a no go.
I doubt, that there might be a workaround to it..
If I had that problem, I would - first thing in the morning - contact my dealer and/or B&O support.
The more people asking to solve the problem, the better the odds for some kind of reaction are - and maybe for a solution.

"Playlists you make in iTunes..." What if you don't use iTunes? - And - What if you do not want to túrn on your PC/MAC to make a Playlist/a Playlist of the album on Spotify, you want to listen to.
The BM/BS5 allways was a big (not great!) jukebox - now it has become an even bigger jukebox...
...and has left the 'Album-listeners' standing in the rain.

It doesn't matter if you use iTunes or Spotify, you still have to turn on your PC/MAC to sync the music to the Beomaster.
1) You can drag and drop the albums from iTunes to the BeoConnect APP
or
2) You can make playlists with albums in spotify and it is synced automatically.

'Fiddling' with the wheel? Or via Beo5? Or via an updated App?
P.S. I have known "the old Lady" for more than 40 years - she was not always reliable when it comes to 'release-promises'.
Razlaw:I believe the solution is to put the other audio unit in option 5. If it does not have option 5, it may be possible to have it updated to add option 5. I know that is possible with the Beosound 3000. Newer units already have option 5 available in them.
Sorry, no real solution, but a workaround for some situations ....
Changing the "A.OPT" on your audio master (eg a BeoSound 3000) to "5" disables the "master functionality" The audio system then becomes a "link slave" where you can access it's sources (CD and Radio) only locally.Distibution of these sources to other ML-rooms won't be possible when set to "A.Opt 5".
We need a new A-Option for the old AudioMasters.
A new EPROM to replace the current!
Com' on B&O - do your job!

I´m not a big listener and havent even filled up my 500 GB harddisk in the BS/BM5 even though I have had it since it arrived in the shop. I actually picked it from the deliverywan when the first batch came to my local B&O reseller. Since then I haven´t had any big problems at all and always been interested to follow the different updates.
This one with Spotify is a big step I think and a surprisingly good one. It´s fun to have a product that updates itself after lots of years of use and ownership. For me the investment still pays, you can say.
What will be the next big thing to come?
The least useable thing is the websurfing via TV, that really lacks of performance and userfriendlyness, I guess the BM5 is wrong platform for that.

I just updated my BS5, ok, I must admit Spotify is a good feature for backbround listening. I like it and my Mrs she was amazed that our "oldfasioned" BS5 has Spotify :) It ads to it in a good way - still Im not a fan of this service. I like "my" music :)
