Millemissen:

We need a new A-Option for the old AudioMasters.

A new EPROM to replace the current!

Com' on B&O - do your job!

Grrr! Millemissen

I have been playing around with various combinations of option settings. While none seem to work with not a CD player and Beosound 5 connected, I find it interesting that in certain combinations the Beosound 5 will display CD messages on its screen, such as the track that is playing and "load CD" if there is no CD in the player.

I just updated my BS5, registered for a spotify 30 days test account, and set my BS5 to audiomaster in A.OPT 0. It was set to NO AUDIOMASTER before, because of my BS9000 as audiomaster. So now I have two audiomasters, and everything is working fine.

Pressing N.MUSIC will start BS5 and play "my" music.

Pressing N.RADIO will start N.RADIO via my BS5.

Pressing A.MEM will start BS5 in "spotify" mode.

Pressing CD will start BS9000 and play my CDs.

Pressing RADIO will start BS9000 and play RADIO (here I noticed some limitations - smetimes I have to press RADIO twice to get sound via the BV7)

This also works in linkrooms - video- and audio linkrooms -  BS9000 in A.OPT 0, BS5 in A.OPT 0, BV7 in V.OPT 2.

I`m surprised that this works without any problems....?

And I must admit I like spotify ( listening to a new release from London Symphony Orchestra - Tchaikowsky, and a new release from Joe Bonamassa)

in a surprisingly great sound.

When I notice more limitations I wil report here.

Hope this helps....

Stefan

I just tried the same and it does not work for me. Maybe because the 5 and my 3000 are in the same room as my BV10 which is set as a link TV and the BV 7 master is in another room?

Hi

I just found a bug in my Beo 6. When I press the right one of the three cover art that you see when listening to netmusic on the BS5 - Spotify activates and starts playing.

Anyone else?

Hi Stefan,

interesting stuff!!

Thanks for telling this.

The text in the official anouncement from Bang & Olufsen states that it is not possible.

How much did they actually test this in Struer?

Nice to know that it works in your setup Smile

But the problems probably begin, when you have a source conected to the A.AUX of your master - could you test that for us??...or if someone has another AudioMaster  (e.g. not the BS9000) with a BeogramLP connected and/or is using the A.Tape-connection (A.MEM) for an external source (pc or alike)!

Maybe if is could be possible to access Spotify using another 'button' than A.MEM (which is standart) or CD or N.MUSIC (alternatively)? What about using A.MEM2? -this is a question to the guys in Struer. There are several 'buttons' in the Lexicon of the BEO4 w.navi that states "for future use"! What is this "future use"?

With all what otherwise is possible in a B&O-setup, why shouldn't there be a genuine solution for this - a solution that Bang & Olufsen could officially present?

Would be nice to hear, what others with both the BS5 and an AudioMaster might test.

Greetings Millemissen

P.S. I do not have a BM/BS5 myself (yet), and certainly won't give up my good old BS4500 for Spotify on BM/BS5!

Can`t be the reason, because it should work from linkrooms too, as said before. OPT 0 means the product doesn`t receive ANY commands by IR, only via ML. Could you please be more specific about your setup and its behaviour?

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. Meanwhile Tchaikowsky finished and J.S. Bach Adagio No.3 in Dm started, and now Mozart is playing.

Does anybody know whether spotify can play MOTS......?!

@Stefan: Spotify -- MOTS-question.

That is called "RADIO", but won't be avaible untill end of May 2013 with the next update.

"Radio – A list of tracks generated by Spotify based on a chosen artist, genre or track.

(Available end of May 2013)", as read on the website!

Isn't the radio playlist just that? You select an artist and off it goes playing similar music.

Now imagine if somebody designed a high quality version of Spotify for the audiophile! I'd pay.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Without meaning to be rude, have you heard spotify through the BS5?

i have as bs5 and pair of lab9s.  I can't tell the difference between a spotify track and a lossless track stored on the BM5z

maybe you have much better ears than me, or maybe you are assuming that its rubbish without hearing it?

Yes, BS5, BS9000 and BV7 in the mainroom. It`s a conventionell AV setup with speakers (5.1) connected to the videomaster.

Must be correct. I just had a look at my BS5, it plays "artist radio". When I move to "previous" queue, BS5 plays music similiar to Bonamassa, that I listened to before Tchaikovsky. Strange - but interesting.....(I never heard of "spotify" before)

That`s what I said in my first post. It`s a surprisingly fantastic quality. Maybe I expected just another internet music service like itunes, but it is fast, has brilliant coverart and sounds really fantastic with my BL5s.

already there, it's called Qobuz.com

Lossless streaming (a bit more expensive than Spotify), and a very nice selection of albums, with rare gems that you can't find on other stores... Sonos is already compatible with Qobuz.

No I haven't to be honest but I just assumed it would be better. Currently listening through a Beovision 10-46 and some Beolab 6000's. Also a Beosound A8.

Remember to select "extreme" in playback/settings.

I have a BV7-55 in one room set as the video master, so that I can use the timer function in the BV7. Second room, linked by Masterlink, has a BV10-40, Beosound 5, and Beosound 3000.  It is late as I type this and I tried different option combinations including both Beosounds as option 0 earlier today so I am not 100% certain I am remembering correctly how itworked when both were set to 0. I think what happened was the Beosound 5 worked fine, the TV worked fine, but when I pressed CD the 3000 started playing, speakers were on, but no sound.

After have been using Spotify about a day, I will say that I'm actually really impressed!

I know that there are no search function, but it is just as easy to find a song in spotify on your PC/MAC and put it on a playlist and then play it on the beosound5, as it is to open the beoconnect APP and the sync the song from another mediaplayer.

The RADIO functions seems to be available already? If I hold down GO and can choose: start radio.

I think that the RADIO function is really good. I have already discovered a lot of new music!

I also realy like the fact that you can edit your playlists directly on the beosound :)

Another thing that is great, it that if you have a playlist, you can choose any song and press "play from here" which you are still not able to do in the CD mode.

There are room for improvement, but overall I think that they have done a great job integrating spotify into the beosound5! I still love my device!

I fully agree with you. As I see it, the only thing missing for BS5 right now, beside maybe the search in Spotify, is an App so that you easy can control the music in a link room. But everything work quite well and it is easy to use.

I have already made several playlists with special artists that I would like to listen to, and maybe purchase the albums to get them in loss-less quality.

I still wonder how the RADIO function works though.

Try to set your BC2 to option 4. It then uses the Link-command. Worth a try.

Your BM5 should be set as an audiomaster.

Not a perfect workaround/solution but perhaps for the moment.

Have you noticed that on the BS5 Spotify is located under "Music Services"?

that leaves room for more/other streaming services.

If Qobuz will come is hard to predict.

WiMP is planning a losless version as well.

Rumours that Apple will start a streaming service surely are there.

Maybe Spotify is only the beginning?

Would be nice if those, who prefer music in losless quality, were able to choose a losless streaming service on the BS5!

Activating RADIO (BS9000) from standby mode works in my setup. Does your BC2 start up when you press RADIO ?

If yes, press RADIO once more.

Pressing A.AUX should activate A.AUX on your BS5. This is how it works in my setup.

I noticed some strange behaviour when switching from one audio source to another. For example:

Switching from A.MEM (Spotify) to RADIO (BS9000) does NOT deactivate A.MEM - you hear two audio sources on the Masterlink.

Switching from A:MEM to A.AUX and then RADIO helps.

BTW: Spotify woke me up this morning. Works via timerplay of my BV7...

The website says: Our partnership with Spotify, lets you enjoy the right music for every mood and moment directly from your BeoSound 5 in premium streaming quality.

This should mean q9 quality. (320). But how can we be sure?  Compare tracks/playlists with each other and then listen what sounds the best. Do a blind test for sure.

Nice, nice, nice... but requires premium subscription, which costs 9,99 €/month after the 30-day trial. B&O could have negociated discounted price for the few BS5 owners.

Wondering if in 30 days there will still be such an enthusiasm on this forum.

Having said this, agree that it's (at last) a great BS5 update! There are reasons to be optimistic for future updates. BS5 is back on track... so to speak.

I think £10 per month for virtually unlimited access to nearly all the music you would ever want, and at a better than average quality is the bargain of the century.

I know this music never belongs to you, but i have probably spent the high hundreds of pounds on music from iTunes, that i don't even listen or remember anymore.

Chris, do a search for your iTunes music once more. Organize the bought songs on a NAS or pc/mac and enjoy your music on your new (already arrived?) BL8000 speakers. Music comes again alive with your setup.

The other day I heard a song on the radio (via TuneIn-app on my iPad) that sounded interesting to me.

A quick switch to the SoundHound-app told me in seconds which song/interpret it was.....and offered me a button to go directly to the Spotify-app.

In the Spotify-app the song showed up within the album from which it was originated.

In less than a minute I could hear the whole album playing - sending it with AirPlay to my Playmaker connected to my oldschool Bang & Olufsen BeoSystem 4500/BL5000-combo!

"BeoSound 5 Spotify Inside" can you beat that?Stick out tongue
