Hi everyone...

I've nearly completed my first B&O set up of a Beogram 1202, Beovox 1702 speakers and a Beomaster 901. It's taken me a while and i've got through 3 sets of speakers and 3 turntables to get here but I am nearly there... with one problem!

I've restored the speakers and had to solder extensions to the speaker cables as someone had cut them really short. I used the wires from some old S25s that were broke. After making sure the connections on the speakers were good, I got everything set up however the right hand channel of the amp appears to be slightly quieter than the left. At first I thought it was the speakers as it was my first soldering job but after switching the speakers over it definitely seems to be a problem with the amp.

I've tried creating more tensions in the output pins by prodding them towards each other but I don't want to go over the top with it. I've also coated the speaker plugs in ISO alcohol to try and clean the contacts but again, didn't make any difference. The only thing I can visibly notice is that the small plastic socket the speaker plug sits in is slightly loose whereas the other one doesn't move at all. I can't see how this would make a difference but it's the only thing I can see. I have also taken the top off to check the solder joints behind the DIN socket which seem to be ok.

I know there has been quite a few posts on this amp so I have tried to find a solution but can't find an answer. If anyone has any suggestions then i'd really appreciate it... so close yet so far!

Thanks,

rich

I wouldn't think it was a speaker connection problem, but I would start with the controls. Turn it off and exercise all of the controls a few times - volume, balance, tone controls, and all. You might just have a build up of oxidation to clear up.

Thanks for the response. I've given that a go but its not made any difference. Is there any other way to clean the oxidation if you still think it could be this.

It's very frustrating as I hadn't noticed this until I had everything set up. I've been testing speakers using the amp for well over a month but have only just noticed the problem!! I've adjusted the balance so that the speakers output is at roughly at the same level but its obviously not ideal.
