Are all B&O freeview cards compatible with all dvd Avants?

It looks like a simple bolt on and plug in job, but is it so simple?

Are the results (picture and sound) better than with an STB?

Any help appreciated.

Maybe not a simple bolt on job, but quite straight forward, look HERE on the archived forum

Save yourself a small fortune and use a STB - I have two Humax boxes (Freeview and Freesat) attached to my BV3 and they are both very easy to use with the Beo 4.  My HD-FOX T2 Freeview box (£64 from Humax direct) even doubles as a Media Streaming Client, all again controllable through the Beo remote.

Many thanks for all this info. It seems to make sense to get a separate box. Which begs the question, which one?

My Avant has software for around 70+ boxes installed. But how can I get a modern freeview box to work if the software isn't already there?

Alternatively, I've heard that if the Avant already has software for an older Humax unit, any later Humax model will work. Can anyone confirm this 'backwards compatibility' with Humax? The 9200 seems to get good reviews.

Thanks again.

You can get the STB chip updated (a replacement chip is needed, as the S/W cannot be downloaded to it), or simply do it yourself.  The actual chip is about £30, and is relatively simple to fit once you have found the STB module inside the TV.  The service manual, available on the site, is a great help.  I posted a screenshot of the new list of STBs on the old site also - sadly I think the picture may has disappeared from the thread but I'll PM it to you when I get home.

I had a 9200 and it worked well with my BV3.  However, I had to change it for a Humax HD FOX T2 because the broadcasts here in Denmark are all MPEG4 - this also gives me some 'future proofing' in case I upgrade to a TV with an HDMI input in the future.  THere were some posts on the old forum about the backwards compatibility of the Humax IR codes, so it's worth having a search.

This is what STB chip table 4.25 provides.  I use 'Humax Fox Sat H' (number 5) with both my HD FOX T2 (Freeview) and my FOXSAT HDR.  You will also see the 9200 in the list at Number 36.

Thanks for all this.

I'll probably go with a new Humax if they are back compatible, and try to link it to the older Humax software.
