Beolab 3500 question

Hi all, I am a long term user of this site but this is my first post. We moved home last year and have a surplus Beolab 3500 speaker, and we can't see it ever being used again so I am going to sell it. Does anyone know if I can tell whether or not it is wireless enabled, as I would like to advertise it accurately, and also get the best price of course!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

A Beolab 3500 is a masterlink speaker and does not have wireless facility builti in.

Yes, this is true, in as much as the most recent version of these link speakers could be connected to Beolink Wireless units (Seperate product).

To be clear,

• The very early units were called LCS9000 and by default had Master Control Link (MCL) and were below s/n 19343452, but you could enable the Masterlink instead of the MCL
• Most units sold came by default with Master Link
• The most recent units sold after serial number 19343452 could work with Wireless 1 Link and have Powerlink sockets as well

So, in terms of determining your unit, if it has a serial number after 19343452 and powerlink sockets, then it is what you call Wireless enabled.

One question regarding the new Beolab 3500 with Masterlink AND Powerlink socket:

Is it possible to use both sockets parallel, or do I have to switch the sockets by entering into the administration menu?

(Goal would be, to have it connected to my Master link set up and parallel connect it to my currently stand alone Beosound 2300)

I thought that the other socket on the BL3500 was an MCL socket - hence should not be used as a powerlink input.

To be very clear, there are TWO versions of Beolab 3500 as follows:-

1. LCS9000/Beolab 3500 Mark 1 has Masterlink (ML) AND Master Control Link (MCL). You can switch between the two, see HERE for details on how to do that. ONLY ONE can be used at a time.
2. Beolab 3500 Mark 2 was from serial number 19343452 and was introduced on 9th May 2006. What was the 8 pin MCL DIN socket in the Mark 1 is now the 8 pin Powerlink socket for Wireless 1 in the mark 2. Only one input at a time can be used.

Thanks Keith,  but the BL3500 manual on the B&O site shows the wireless connected to the ML socket.

The manual is half correct, let me explain. When BeoLab 3500 MK II is installed with Wireless 1 with software version 2.1, the connection must be made via Master Link only, when the software is updated to version 3.1 or later the powerlink socket can be used.

Thank you very much for the fast answer.

But what does it mean exactly: “Only one input at a time can be used”.

Or to phrase it differently, does the Beolab 3500 automatically switches between Masterlink and Powerlink (depending on the incoming signal) or do I have to switch manually between the two sockets (and how – I could not find anything in the manual)?
