So after polished out the scratches I installed my Beolab 4500's. I was planning to connect them through powerlink cable but as these Beolabs were previously Beovox 4500's I decided after reading the manual that I could just connect them through speakerlink.
The speakers are connected as rear speaker through a MCL2P connected to my Beovision 8-40. They sound fine but they don't switch off when I switch off the rest of the set and a buzz remains after a while. Any idea what could be wrong? What sould the settings be on the switches? I tried several but switching to a setting for a stronger amplifier increases the buzz. Does the speaker need to be in Audio or Video setting in this setup.
Sorry, I may have understood your question false....
...BUT, how can you connect an active speaker (the BL4500) to a MLC2P, which is an amplifier???
Since you talk about BeoLab 4500, all you have to do is to connect the speakers with a PowerLink cable to the rears of your tv.
Tip: In the sound settings of the tv choose BL4000!
The settings for video/audio has no influence at all, since there will be no displayinformation connecting to a BV8.
You must set the speakers to either right or left. The 'input switch' has no effect when using PowerLink cabling.
You can find a manual here: http://beophile.com/?page_id=11098

There is a tv - and there is a BV
The reason i am not using powerlink cables is that I allready have speaker link cabling in place. From the manual it seems as it makes no difference in the way you connect the cables (speakerlink or powerlink). I you connect it to a Beomaster you can even get display info over speakerlink.
Using PL cabling the signal isn't boosted twice, which is a good thing, but if you're happy with the setup stick with it.
When using SL the speakers turn on when a signal is detected and turned off after a few minutes of silence, so what you are describing is quite normal. The buzzing noise, however is probably due to a bad capacitor. You'll have to service the speakers.
If you bypass the amplifiers and connect the speaker cables directly to the BeoVoxes you can determine whether the buzz is in the amplifier or in the crossover.
