Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me

I have a beocenter 2 and wanted to get some outdoor speakers working which were already in place. I bought a second-hand beolink passive and IR eye. I connected it all up loosely in the main room to test it and it worked perfectly (i didn't set it up as a link room but just made sure the outdoor speakers worked and that the IR eye took the signal). As it worked, I disassembled and ran the cables around the house properly and rewired the IR eye outside.

Once I have turned it on, the red light on the passive just stays red no matter what I do. I have tried connecting it via ML via PL or via both but all to no avail.

I'm a bit of a novice at all this but honestly thought it was all very simple - can anyone help me? Could it be something simple such as a change in the settings on the beo4, I'd guess not given that I have also tried to connect directly via a PL?

interestingly, when I opened the IR eye and took out the old wires I noticed that my eye had six terminal blocks in it, not five as per the diagram? Again, given that I have tried to connect via ML I don't know whether this would make an impact?

I would very much appreciate any help anyone could give me!

Thank-you,

Pete

The ir eye should just blink when you send a command to it ie cd, radio etc, on the passive kit there is a socket for the ir sensor it is plugged into that!! And not the powerlink socket

Hi Pete,

I suppose you use ML-cabling!?

Did you in your test setup use a normal Male/Male ML-cable?

Does the final setup include a 'MasterLink junctionbox' and other ML-components (e.g. a BV)?

N.B...the question from kal you must answer first!

Greetings Millemissen

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Thanks both, the IR is plugged into the correct port but is showing no blinking light, there is no sign of life at all With it. When I tested it the set up was exactly as it is now using a a male ended ML cable. There are no junction boxes. I have used a multimeter to test the ML cable and all connectors are sound with no breaks. The connection as it stands is a BC2 connected to two BL8000, a ML to the passive, the passive to two Bose outdoor speakers and the IR. I've tried a variety of settings on the Beo4 but still can't get the passive to come out of standby. I've also tried removing the ir and and ML and tried just using a PL however this had the same effect, the passive's little red eye just kept staring out

The only other thing which has changed is that I put on a 15m cable to the IR and so had to rewire it. This was bought from Steve at sounds heavenly and I added in some additional van damme speaker wire.

Should make no difference the only thing I can think if if the it is not blinking is that it's in option 0, with beo4 in hand press red dot (stand by) and list button together press list till you see option press go then list till you see aopt press 6 if it blinks try pressing source eg cd, radio hopefully that works which means passive kit was in option 0.

HI,

I've tried adjusting the settings both inside and out (i.e with the BC2 and the BL IR eye) however neither makes a difference. I checked the voltage going to the IR eye and I get 5v however as there are six terminal blocks rather than five I've asked Steve at sounds heavenly if he can help me work out which I should be connecting to as there must be one terminal which doesn't need a wire!

I have attached a pic below so you can see what I mean.

Other than this I can't work out why on earth it won't turn on - am I correct in the assumption that if I removed the ML and the IR and just connected the PL the passive should wake up regardless of Beo4 settings? If so, then I wonder whether the passive could be faulty?

Thanks again for your help - any more ideas?

For anyone reading this - the eye was broken - it had to be replaced!
