Hi,

A friend recommended this site as a last resort before I smash my TV up with a digger.

I had a quick search and realise that there are similar threads, but I didn't really understand them. I would be enormously grateful if you could help me and talk to me as though you were explaining it to your mother or a 2 year old child.

I am trying to connect and Apple TV 3 to my tv. Currently it only has a satellite box connected by a scart lead so I am connecting the Apple via the dvi input to the television.

So far I managed to get picture with no sound but by pure fluke and only when I disconnected the scart to the satellite box so we are better off starting from scratch.

I have two problems:

1) I cannot get the tv to display the apple tv

2)I cannot get sound (I now understand that I also need a sound lead as well as the Dvi?. The Apple TV only has an optical out)

Many thanks in anticipation of your help

Well, just to explain a few issues.

What MK (Mark = Version) is your TV? Beovision 7-32 or bigger? Type Nr. should be written on the back.

Your apple tv (normally) sends Picture and Sound over the HDMI cable.

If you use a HDMI to DVI cable to connect to your Beovision, no Sound is transferred. Therefore you Need another cable for the Sound.
If your TV has no optical in there are Little external converters (I used one with a Beovision 3-32, ca. 15€).
But if your TV cannot be set up to accept digital Sound together with DVI, you have to look for a converter from digital to analog and use RCA Inputs on the TV.

Another issue is that you Need to tell the tv what devices are connected.
This Needs to be set-up in the menu.
Please refer to your reference guide, download might be available on B&O Website.
If you cannot find it, drop me a PM with your Type Nr. of the TV set, I will see if I can find a PDF for you.

One last issues might be HDCP (copy protection on DVI/HDMI) and handshaking issues, but let's Keep this aside for the Moment...

Important would be to know the type nr. of the TV.

Best regards
Ralf

Hi. Thanks a lot.

I don't have the exact model number (I am at work but I know that it is a Mark 3.

It does not have HDMi inputs, only the Dvi one. I am not sure about the optical input with the TV. If it hasn't should this work: http://www.amazon.co.uk/POF-830-Optical---Coaxial-Converter-Optical/dp/B0015LNV2M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365755066&sr=8-1&keywords=optical+to+coaxial ?

With regards to the instruction manual - I tried for 3 hours last night to set it up through connections in the menu section as per the manual and it doesn't work. Currently under AV1 is the sky box. If I try and connect it using AV4 (which I was told is the one that will also incorporate additional audio) when I toggle to select source there are only two options there: PC or NONE.

All the other options that can be found as sources under AV1 are absent. Any ideas?

Oh, and it is a 32 inch Mk3, if that's relevant.

Thanks, No I didn't - I can refer to that once I get to that point.

In the meantime I cant even connect the source so I need to do that first.

I just spoke to the shop and apparently I need to have my software updated.

£160 to get an £80 Apple TV to work

Thanks for the help anyway

£160 sounds like more than a software update? I would imagine on a Mk3 7-32 they will also have to get inside the TV and change a chip in the hardware as ATV3 outputs audio in a specific format that your TV in its MK3 format cannot decode.

£160 for a hardware change, software update, probably an IR controller cable, engineer driving out to your place and probs spending 2 hours on your TV with the end result being thatl
