It seems it is not a wireless system. Must be plug in with an amplifier like the 1 in the Bang & Olufsen collection.

It looks like a classical conception. Maybe it sounds very good but not very innovative system from Bang & Olufsen.

Quite a lot of cash for satellites, even if the subwoofer looks quite powerful.

I'm confused about the colours. Although I think the addition of colours is a fantastic idea, why oh why can't B&O produce other fret options for the BV11 (and BV10)? Why isn't there a green, a yellow, a brown, an orange? You can get them for the A8 and A9, now for the BL14, but not your TV!

At least two separate people have asked me if B&O produce a green fret - like the green frets on my Beosound 8 - for my BV11.

I like the idea of a green BL14, but I want it to match up with the same fret on the BV11.

Don't expect too much. The Beolab 12 designed specifically for the flat screen range of TV's come in white or silver.

The flat screens TV's they are designed for come in black and silverErm..

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I am agree. It looks like a very conventional 5.1 system at least in concept. I hope that the design is much more innovative.

No one really knows how the BL14 will be!

There are a couple of 'leaked' pictures showing a central unit with the subwoofer and the electronic/amps in the shape of a BL9 ( you might say)  and 4 alternatively 5 round satelites in different coulours.

It comes in 2 different versions BL14.4 and BL14.5.

The 14.4 is for a BV - and the 14.5 is for a non-BV.

i suppose the 'electronic' also includes a surround-decoder - anything else would make no sense.

How it must be connected to the BV alternatively to a non-B&O-tv is at the moment not known.

But I am sure "someone" will know before the launch - otherweise we will have to wait for the 15. of May.

It will be different from what we are used to - and is maybe not at alll aimed at the 'hardcore B&O-users"  Sad

From what I hear most dealers are asked for a one box home theatre system all the time.

In true B&O style it will sound very good, 3 or 4 years ago we would have sold shed loads of this system.

In true B&O style great product too late!

In true B&O style would love to see the sales figures of the recently launched BeoLab 15-16, lovely product but totally unpractical, will be the Betamax of speaker systems.

In true B&O style still dreaming B&O one day will fulfil their full potential.........

I have been told the blab 14's are going to be just a speaker set, you will need a surround sound amp for them to work.

So, if you have a "BeoVision" the TV's surround sound processor will do the job, and the TV's speaker will act as centre. If connected to non "BeoVision" a Denon, Sony ect amp will be needed also.

If this is true, I feel it is another mistake from B&O! I think, people want a one box solution. The processor should be in the sub, with 5 HDMI's, and 2 or 3 digital audio ins and one HDMI out.

And, as I said, not particularly cheap for non-B&O TV owners. So B&O are suggesting you take your £1500 Samsung TV, buy some £3500 B&O surround speakers and then an amplifier on top to control them? :)

If the surround sound speakers are 2x or 3x the cost of the TV, my guess is that there won't be too many non-B&O users falling over themselves to get a speaker set for the plastic TV. Indeed, most people I know don't spend £1000 on a TV these days!

There are two versions I believe. One for us Beonites, and one for those without a built in receiver and the extra cost will reflect this.

How they had the time and resources to make the Beolab 15, and not get this out sooner is beyond me.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I think you would be surprised how many people spend 3k upwards on surround speakers.  Back in the day when me and the Mrs bought our first house it cost £80k, we earned somewhere around £30k between us, first thing we bought was a 36" Toshiba CRT for £1100, and a set of mission sspeakers for 2.5k, and Onkyo Amp for £700.  Mast of my mates spend much more on the speakers than they do on a TV.

People will invest in a decent surround system as speakers will typically outlive the TV.  I am sure there are plenty of new B&O customer who will buy into this, and plenty of ex customers who had TVs in the past but now can't justify B&O proces, who could be tempted to add this to the Panasonic, samsung etc they bought instead of a BV7.

We'll see :) I can't name a single person who has spent £3K on speakers. No-one, and I work for a large magazine publisher. I'm not saying people don't spend decent money on speakers, but never more than about £1K. People just do not have cash for £3K surround speakers these days. Not your average consumer, anyhow.

And we get back to square #1 of every new product thread on Beoworld... when was B&O targeted to "your average consumer"? As far as I know, buying new B&O kit was never a civil right, but required some sizeable income or long saving.

Hey, it's just a point following on from someone who said that there's a version which will be released at non-B&O users. Problem is, most non-B&O TV customers do not pay more than about £1K for their TV.

Ironically B&O are trying their best to appeal to average consumers by concentrating on their BeoPlay brand. They need to get more customers in to the stores, buying product.

From the Beoplay web page:

"Marrying the values of PLAY with the substance, quality and luxury of Bang & Olufsen characterizes what we stand for:

Bang & Olufsen + PLAY = B&O PLAY"

From a couple of Beoplay press releases:

"B&O PLAY from Bang & Olufsen provides premium listening and viewing experiences to digitally connected design fans. "
.
Nothing in B and O's descriptions of Beoplay suggests that the target market is the "average" consumer.  LUXURY and PREMIUM are not words to describe average.

The BL14.4 will be a product for a BV-tv.

Since the surrounddecoder is already inside a BV-tv, the BL14.5 must be different (and more expensive).

Both will have amps for the sub/satelites, just like the BL15 - which means an ICEPower-module (in the base/sub) and satelites as passive speakers, but matching the amps - I suppose.

The exactly specs and the design is still a secret!

The BL14 will be launched in London May 15th - and will be presented in the stores as well.

The launch will be followed/supported by several different events - 6 short film about the concept, online and on Discovery Channel and TLC and much more.

A special 5.1-remix of the soundtrack from 'Les Misérables' on Bluray has been made  in cooperation with Universal. The dics will be a gift for BL14-buyers.

It could be an idea for Beoworld for the monthly Prize Draw 🎉

By the way: the BV14 is a Bang & Olufsen product!

So I can believe you or B and O as to who their target audience is? Not much of a contest. I am pretty confident B and O know their target consumer and are able to articulate a description of the target consumer far better than you.

Of course B&O wants to target a broader range with PLAY, but they are not going to write "Average Product for Average People" as a slogan on their web site, are they!

The difference between the 14.4 and 14.5 has to be a centre speaker. The BeoLab 14 cannot use your Samsung, Sony ect as a centre speaker. But it can use your BeoVision as one :-)
