Hi,

I am searching for one pair of the old and very little known B&O lautspeaker. I own the stereo amplifier 608 (Beolab608) and I have heard it is a fitting pair for this amplifier. Unfortunately I can find any information about it. On the Beophile webpage it is only one entry with one sentence (http://beophile.com/?page_id=12711).

Does anybody has picture of this speakers?

I get the offer from a guy who told me, he inherited the system (Beolab 608 with speakers) and he thinks it could be the 608 model. Here one pic that I got from him. It has no notation or nothing on it and I am not sure if these speakers are 608.

Thx

They dont look right to me, but I could be wrong. I have a pair of 607 speakers and the materials look a lot higher quality than those in your picture.

As said, Im not an expert on these but they just dont look right. Im sure one of our resident guru's will be able to confirm things for you though. It might be that they have had the grill material renewed and the wood stripped so they could be the correct speakers.

Also congrats on having a 608 amp. Lovely things.

I never heard of a speaker "608" and it was never in any of the catalogues.
There was a "Speaker Hifi 607" though and it looks very much like the one, you attached.
Only the front cloth and badge looks wrong but that has probably been changed by a previous owner.
The grey-ish blue cloth tends to get brittle with age so it's not uncommon to find it replaced or punctured.
Check the backsides of the cabinets for any markings.

The attached catalogue scan is from 1962.
Confusingly, the 607 speaker series was in the 1962 catalogue together with all the 608 units and indeed the Hifi Amplifier 608.
I'm sure, this is the speaker, you are looking for.
The next catalogues (1963 & 64) has the same speaker mentioned as just "Speaker Hifi" without a number
and from 1965, the name was "Speaker K" which, I believe is basically the same design but with updated innards.

The "Speaker S 607" is from the same catalogue as the "Speaker Hifi 607" and the 608 amplifier and
would work fine together.
(Speaker S without the number is from 1965 and onwards).
The 608 amplifier would work even better with newer and better speakers, but of course
that wouldn't be correct vintage then.

Yes, I've seen that too but I really would prefer to stay with facts and not use it for reference here;

1. The website gives two different years for that speaker:
First
Type 608 ca. 1969
and later
Type 608, ca. 1960
non of which are correct, suggesting that this fellow hasn't quite understood
the old numbering system and/or don't know what speaker(s) he is talking about.
I have the same photo in my files, less cropped, under Hifi607withRondstraler

2. There are other wrong info on that page.

3. It's merely a "wanted" page, not a page presenting actual items.

Hi all,

thx for the informations.

I think also the "Speaker Type 608" did'n exist but I wanted to hear your opinion.

I will visit this guy to see personally how these speakers look and if they function at all.

I will give you a feedback.

Bring a camera.
If they are indeed 608 speakers, we will definitely need photos.  Laughing

Hej

I´m very lucky to own a pair of those speakers (Hi-Fi 607)

I can tell you that the cabinet is exactly as the more common type K. The only differens is that the type Hi-Fi 607 is a bassrefles type with the port between the legs, where the type K is a closed type. The speaker unit is a Peerles type P825FM.

How do they sound?  together with the ampl. Hi-Fi 608 and a CDX  -- Very, very, very good. Much better than you would expect

Hej

I forgot to mention that the K-type is a 3-way speaker, while the Hi-Fi 607 has one full-range speaker

NB!   I'll try to upload a pair of picturesSmile

Nice photos and nice collection.

That black box down right in the first photo, is that the building furniture "doll house" set ?

Yes, the black box is from a "doll house furniture set" but unfortunately without the furniture
