Hi:

I am hoping owners of the Beocenter 2500 system can help me veryify something:

1) Can you hear a slight hum in the headphone jack? Eg in CD mode when the disc is not playing?

I'm using a pair of Bose Noise Reduction and it really amplifies the hum so its rather annoying. Regular headphones, the hum is still there but not as audible.

2) Does plugging headphones in the jack automatically mute the system? I find that when I plug my headphones in, sound still comes out of the speakers. I need to hit mute in order to switch off the speakers.

I've owned this unit for a number of years, this is the first time I've used headphones on it.

 Thanks,

Derek

I can't help with the first question, but with regard to the second: Many B&O systems do not mute the speakers when you insert headphones - you are meant to press mute and then the volume control enables you to adjust the headphone volume.  Does this work for your headphone volume, until you press mute again?

On second thoughts (having looked at the circuit diag) I think plugging in the headphones should mute the speakers!  What speakers are you using, and what Mk of powerlink lead?

If I can get my son to answer his text I will get him to check with his BC2300.

For demonstration purposes just to have access to the sources connected to it, I currently have the BL5s connected through the headphone jack (1/8inch to RCA adapter) of the BM7000 since the PL cables I have are of the wrong type, and I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the headphone jack quality is on it, and that all sound adjustments work through there. Anyway, I heard an audible "click" when I plugged the cable into the jack on the BM7000 so I presume it at least does mute the speakers that would have otherwise been connected via PL. There is definitely NO hum of any kind on that device when using the headphone jack. That does not sound normal to me for any B&O product.

Hi Guy:

I have the standard setup... BC 2500 with BL2500s.

Nothing fancy!

There may be some oxidation on the headphone contacts, try connecting/disconnecting and turning the plug while connected. Or turn off the unit, put a drop of mineral spirit on the plug, insert totally and turn a couple of times, let dry, turn on, and try again.

I have a Beosound 3000, using headphones the speakers are muted automatically and no hum what so ever with different headphones, but I think your 2500 has to be muted manually.

If after cleaning there is still hum, try cassette, radio to see if it also shows there.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
