just as an update, i changed the plug on the beogram, connected to the beomaster 1900 and everything worked great, all the functions worked o.k. the only problem was the sound which was terrible, distorted and whistling, i presume the MMC4000 stylus is damaged
firstly, shall i look for another stylus or send it to Axel, i think his name is, who rebuilds them, if so anyone have his contact details please
secondly, am i o.k. to diconnect the spring unit which attaches the lid in order to use the lid manually, there are no sensors or anything attached for example
thirdly, any tips on getting duct tape glue off, simple cleaner i might source here in Thailand
any replies very much appreciated, determined to bring this beogram up to scratch and enjoy it, cheers
Axel is well recommended - you can find his site here.
The lid of the 1902 has no electrical connections but why do you want to remove it? The spring can cause problems, usually by part of the plastic breaking but this can be fixed. Lids are very useful!
Duct tape is a pain - I would use mild detergent and a lot of time!
Peter
sorry peter, didn't explain very well, the lid is off, a few bits of plastic floating about inside, with the springs sticking out it is not possible to sit the lid on, the rear has bowed also which is probably why the lid came off, tried to reattach but those springs are a nightmare
In that case, just remove the whole structure. I do have a lid but unfortunately it is the slightly early one that fits the 1900 type deck but not the 1902.
thanks peter, now i will remove the springs and use the lid manually, have sent axel a message, i think
To remove glue rests I use acetone on wood and metal parts, do not use it on plastic and painted parts. Mineral spirit or isopropyl alcohol may also help.
For the wood after cleaning with acetone or IPA, I sand with 200 grain, clean, soak with linseed oil (Danish oil), after 1/2 hour clean of excess with lint free rag, let dry over night, sand lightly with 400 grain and oil again, let dry over night, polish with rag.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
bidstonhall: thanks peter, now i will remove the springs and use the lid manually, have sent axel a message, i think
As said before, I do have a Beogram lid - with the attachments. Which bit of yours is broken? I can give you the plastic brackets etc - the lid itself is going to be too low for your deck (seems daft but they changed the height at the change of model) but the brackets are likely to be the same.
thanks for the offer peter but i coulsn't get it here, chances of it arriving in one piece are slim, much appreciated though
have tried to reach axel, once on his site and once from an email address i found on another forum, no reply so far
on closer examination with a magnifying glass, it looks like the cantiler is bent in half, it appears cracked half way down, stylus looks o.k. but i don't really know
can that be fixed as well or should i look for a replacement, they seem a bit rare will it take any other sylus, cheers
