Dear members,

how to you connect speakers to a Beosivion Avant in a surround setup? Do you only connect one of the front speakers to the TV and then link speakers or do you connect both speakers directly to the TV? What about the rear speakers? Does connection make any difference at all? Both means are described in the manuals...

Thanks!

Rgds,

Kai

Either is the answer. If the surround module is fitted, then it will have two front powerlink sockets, two rear sockets and one for a sub-woofer. You can either connect each speaker to the TV or you can daisy chain e.g. from the TV to the first front speaker and thence to the other front speaker. What you cannot do is daisy chain from a front speaker to a rear speaker. Each powerlink socket contains information for both right and left channels - there are no audible differences between the two methods.

And daisy chaining a Beolab 11 with (say) the front R+L channels is not same as the 5.1 effect of coupling the subwoofer directly to the fifth power link port in the surround sound module

Thanks very much. But it would be possible to daisy chain fronts and directly connecting both rears? This forum is really of so much help. I feel bad for asking so much, but it's really helped me a great deal. Thanks so much, everybody!

You can daisy chain the fronts and rears. But as elephant said, in addition with a sub you will loose your 5.1 setup.

If this 5.1 setup is not important for you, you can use one of the powerlinksockets for the fronts and daisy chain them from a sub. The rears can be connected to the powerlinksocket for the rear speakers. You can also daisy chain here a sub, but . . . This will give you not the 5.1 setup!

You can certainly daisy chain the fronts and directly connect the rears. The secret to understanding powerlink is that each socket contains information for both right and left channels so daisy chaining or direct connection will make no discernible difference. One could argue the speaker furthest away will have a delay but as the signal is travelling at the speed of light, the change in angle of the head will have an effect which massively outweighs this!! Big Smile

The subwoofer question is another interesting one. The internal circuitry of the subwoofer filters the lowest frequency away from the front speakers if they are attached to the subwoofer. However selecting the subwoofer channel should have an effect in itself.

I'm not entirely sure, whether I do understand this comment correctly, BeoHut. So, you are saying that daisy chaining fronts and rears will make me loose 5.1 even when connecting the sub directly to the TV? Sorry for asking, but what do you mean by writing "daisy chain from a sub"? I was only thinking about directly connecting the two fronts and the two rears.

Thanks once again!

Kai

To make it clear: when using a sub, connect it to the subwoofersocket of your BeoVision. This will give you a 5.1 setup. The front speakers can be daisy chained, so the rears. As Peter said, do not daisy chain the front to rear speakers.
