help needed
i came across a beocord 5000 type 4715, its cosmetic condition is near mint, everything seems to working except for the playing of tape, it rewinds and forwards tape counter works all the lights etc, however if i remove the tape and press play with tray empty it seems to work ok but when tape is loaded and play is pressed it goes into stop mode as if its to hard to turn tape.

I guess belt but be warned, this is the one bit of B&O that my old dealer refused to repair! He said that nothing good had ever happened when he tried to repair one! Tim did repair mine but it still chews tapes!!

In the lot of crappy condition stuff I got with my otherwise OK BM7000 and the RL6000 speakers was a BeoCord 7000 with broken mounts for the lid and a constant whirring noise whenever it was running which of course wouldn't play tapes either.
I just threw it in the trash. I know there's a lot of nostalgia around here but I can't imagine spending any time fixing a tape deck unless its part of an integrated unit like the BC9500, and that's before considering the BC5000 is considerably more complex than the 7. And even then it's really "just to know" its working.

Cassette can be a very decent format when using these decks; the 4715 is no slouch when in good working order, but I'd recommend to disable the back capstan to eliminate skew and ruined tapes - worn dual capstan transports are the worst handlers of tape.
I'm pretty happy with my Beocord 9000 and have had much joy with other decks in the 8000 series. They are good performers (20-20k Hz +/- 1½ dB at -20 dB), considering the narrow tracks and slow speed. Haven't been using cassette so much since I started using open reel tape instead; still using the 9000 occasionally as it blows 256 kb/s mp3's on my iPod out of the water.
Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
thank you all for your input on this, had it been in not so good condition i would be happy to let it go, its just in such a pristine cosmetic condition, picked it up for £20, does not look like many tapes have been passed through this machine and as i've said everything else works fine. Which brings me to ask is it worth getting a set of replacement belts or as one of you have said just use as show piece.
marc: is it worth getting a set of replacement belts
Nothing ventured..... It will not diminish its pristine condition to have a go.
I agree - but don't use it with tapes you cannot replace! It will behave all nicely and then laugh at you as it strips the magnetic covering off your favourite tape!
ok , i will get hold of belt kit and what happens, by the way peter did you see my post on beomster 8000, was woudering if you know the best person for the job on repair, at the moment i've taken it to hinchleys in cardiff they were a b&o dealer for many years but now just deal with other brands, just need back up plan if they fail.
