Bought myself a Beolit 12. Brand New. Excellent bit of kit until i take it into the garden - approx 15mins direct line of sight from my Apple Time Capsule Router.

The signal is extremely patchy and makes listening to it unbearable. My iPhone, iPad and MacBook both have full signal in the garden. Any ideas? It is fully up to date.

Does your BeoLit12 face the Router or is the back of BeoLit12 towards the router?

Try to rotate BeoLit12, I found that the receiption is better when BeoLit12 is facing the router.

We have discussed this before but there really is not a good solution for this problem.  Where I live, my Time Capsule is within range of about 15 other wifi networks.  Dropouts were definitely a problem for me.  I was going to return the Beolit 12 for a refund but inadvertently solved the problem.  I had to add a second Time Capsule to my wifi network for my wife's computer.  In the setup, I set the new TC to extend the network and that worked.  Ultimately, I am going to connect the Beolit 12 to my Cat 7 ethernet network.  As it turns out, I really only use my Beolit 12 as a table radio in the bedroom.

I did the same as Linder and it was still unusable whilst all other devices worked flawlessly.

Took it back and got an A8, problem solved. Shame because we need another device.

Has anyone tried using a more powerful wifi transmitter? Typically standard routers have relatively limited wifi range what about trying something like;

http://www.ubnt.com/picostationm

would be interested to see if this improves reception on BeoLit12.

As at home I love the sound but wifi reception is not wonderful.

I think the problem Chris has is that his iPhone maintains perfect wifi reception, even at the bottom of his garden. Ask the Beolit to stream music in exactly the same location he gets nothing.

Considering they both cost roughly the same, it's not to much to expect the dedicated wifi music player to outperform a jack of all trades smartphone.

There is a quite extensive thread trying to agree a resolution with different routers, positions etc. IIRC there was no satisfactory outcome.

Ban boring signatures!

Today managed at least 60m away from our shop WiFi with the BL12.....

No Drop outs!

Very pleased to probably double our previous best range!

On returning home implemented the same solution and the signal has gone from marginal (amber wifi light on the BL12) to excellent! After 6 hours of Beolit sound heaven not 1 dropout!!!!!!!!!!

It is all a question of balancing signal strength, channel selection and selecting the best position for the wifi antenna (within reason) in the optimum position. In both the shop and my home situations I have turned off the wifi on the router and used a separate WiFi AP. The reasoning for this is that often the modem/router/wifi all in one box is position right next to where the broadband enters the premises. Usually this is in a poor position for optimum WiFi braodcast efficiency and strength.

Adding the new Wifi point in the showroom (7m from the original router position) has gained at least 30m extra range.

At home the new wifi point is just 3m from the position of the original router (a 6 year old DLink box) which has the in-built WiFi turned off.

Please do not think I am being mean but I am not going to name the WiFi AP I am using (have already mentioned the brand and to give a clue it cost only £60) as this simple to deploy solution has taken a long time to work out , but hopefully it will give fellow beoworlders hope for getting the most out of their BL12s!
