Hoi,

I used 'dsaudio' a couple of times - my NAS is also a Synology.

And never again. Use PlugPlayer, 8Player, Creation5, if you are a iOS-user!

N.B. I did not understand all, that was written above, but these are my 2 cents!

Thanks!

The problem with those appsis that I need to operate an iOS device for Airplay, whilst the Synology should be able to play autonomous of an iOS device through airplay via dsaudio...

Is the problem with airplay on dsaudio/synology?

Is Qnap better in that sense that i can use it autonomously?

And how do you gain access to the dsaudio/synology WITHOUT an iOS-device?

And what do you mean by "autonomously"?

The way I see it, you have 2 options:

1- use dsaudio app on an idevice. Play the audio file and in the play screen you select the playmaker as destination. This way your ios device functions as a sort of hib where you use airplay on the ios device to stream to the playmaker. This is recognizable through the play triangle in the right upper corner of the ios device, next to the battery status.

Turning of (completely) the ios device would kill the playing of the music

2- alternative is that you select the playmaker as the prefereed player in the settings of the ios device. This way, airplay features of the synology are used. You can start playing a song and completely kill the iphone, the synology would keep on playing as the ios device merely gave the NAS the order to start playing the song. The ios device is no more than a remote. This also works on android with the dsaudio app and off course via the webbrowser when logged on to the audio player of the nas

Hope this is clear what I mean?

Hi Leufje,

When you connect to audio station on your synology via a web browser (via a computer, not an iDevice), are you able to see "Playmaker" on the device list (by default, the item is "my computer". And there is even a "multiple airplay devices" on the list... If it doesn't appear, then the DS412+ (I have the same NAS) doesn't "see" the playmaker...

That is exactly what every DLNA software does..

...lets you connect a server to a renderer.

1: the iOS device is renderer/player AND control point as well - to get sound send to your PM you must use the AirPlay function (of the iOS device and the PM) (= AirPlay function of the PM)

2: the iOS app (or webbrowser function) is nothing but the control point. - the sound is send from the server to the renderer/player (the PM) direct. Every DLNA app can acts this way! No AirPlay is involved! (= DLNA function of the PM)

There are several reasons, why I choose not to use the DS audio app.

Mainly because I do not like the interface - but also because I want to be able to pick a server of my own choice.

You may install different servers on the SynNAS - most of them are better than the one used by DS audio.

Try different servers/DLNA app's and choose the combination you like.

Yes I can see that in the list. I have used it, but with the same issues as via an idevice, namely that the audio sometimes stops for a quik second and then continues. Often more times per song, sometimes it can go fine for a couple of songs but never long.

In case of scenario 2, actually airplay is involved as synology supports both dlna and airplay. I checked this and saw in the running processes of the nas that he process for this is running (will chek the exact name later)

Dsaudio lets you select the renderer for airplay in its controls. And via the webbrowser it also lets you select the airplay device as well as dlna. Thats likely why I see the playmaker twice in the Nas renderer list

The cuts in the rendering could be a problem with wireless bitrate : are you wired or wireless between DS and PM?

And hare you experiencing this issue both in DLNA and AirPlay?

Problems only with airplay. With dlna i have different issues like using remote functions.

I have the issues wired (gigbit) and wireless (with good connection)

Google already learned that this happens to more using synology

Hi Leufje,

seems I'll have to update my DSM to the brandnew version - or in my case I should rather upgrade my NAS Embarrassed

You are right, the new DSM now supports AirPlay directly from the SYN via the DSM-interface.

This means that you will have to have a pc/mac running (or could this perhaps be done in the browser of an iDevice?). I prefer using my iPad since it is more flexible, mobile and faster!

Of course the PM will then show up as two different devices with the new DSM.

The great thing about the AirPlay support however, is that you now can use an AppleTV as player!

----

Right now I am wondering which formats are supported in the Audio Station - if FLAC is not, it's a nogo for me.

You can easily run a Logitech Media Server on the SYN-NAS - which is what I do - it gives you great format support and shows your coverpics in high resolution on the iPad.

----

But - allthough I did not understand all of your first post - i have a feeling that there were several other issues (PM and speakers not turning off....), which are unanswered.

If you could sum these issues up in english, it would be nice.

It not quite works like that:

The DSAudio app lets you select which airplay renderer the synology should use as target device. So an iOS or even android device is just a mere remote control, directly controlling the Synology. You could even do this remotely logging in, thousands of miles away!

Yet this isnt tht stable, as the airplay on synology is a bit buggy to my experience. However, this is exactly how i want it to work.

When using dlna, i cant control audio with the android device buttons and the playmaker seems to get a will of his own. I havent really looked into detail on this as it I want to use airplay

Btw, the audio station supports everything I throw at it, incl flac

Problem with the logitech server is again that I need an idevice or android in between to stream to the playmaker, where I want to stream directly from the nas to the playmaker!

Opgelost...
