Unlike newer versions there appears to be no ability to organise the 'list' order. No 'move' in the menu. Is this true or is there a hidden menu somewhere?

That's true, with this old Beo4 you can't MOVE the items in LIST menue.

In addition to this I find I am unable to even enter commands into the list in a specific order. I want the following sequence: link>a.aux>speaker>stand but the software automatically puts stand and speaker first regardless of which way round they are entered. Very annoying and seemingly no way around this.

That's also true, there is no way to put the commands in a specific order.

Sure there is - just remove all from the list, and start with what you want first....

Greetings Millemissen

There is a tv - and there is a BV

No, sorry Millemissen, that doesn't work with my 15 years old Beo 4 (with AV button)!

Greetings
