Hi,

I'm running a Playmaker with no problems connected to my HP netbook with iTunes. However, my iPhone connection is very temperamental. Although it recognised the Playmaker it will often dump the connection as soon as I press play. At other times when it does connect it will hesitate mid-song, and eventually fail or cause the Playmaker to go into error mode. Any ideas why this would be? I'd think it is an iPhone problem as the Playmaker runs perfectly when fed by the netbook.

Cheers,

Patrick

I initially found the iPhone 5 not as good with a connection to the playmaker as with an iPod touch.

There was an update to the playmaker that you have to do via an Ethernet cable. It doesn't take long, perhaps this might work for you

Most 'Playmaker problems' are router/AirPlay problems.

Ok, did the software upgrade. Thought this worked as it was fine for a while but today it's been very patchy again. iTunes from the laptop seems fine though, and running DNLA from a Samsung mobile has been problem free too.

My girlfriend complains that the iPad loses wireless reception too often whereas the laptops never do. That said, AirPlay fails when wireless suggests there's full reception. So she blames i-devices as not being good enough.

If it is a router problem, where should I start? Just replace it with a new one and hope for the best?

I'm keen to consolidate all my digital music. The functionality of the iPad is otherwise perfect for living room use.

As for the temperamental iPhone, it's fully up to date.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Grab a Cisco router like the E3000 and above and you should be fine. Those routers are also supported by B&O so if you continue to have problems then you are fully compliant with what B&O is pushing customers to have and can most likely get further assistance.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Try focusing your devices to a SINGLE wireless band on the router. Obviously you will have to focus down to the lowest common denominator. In this case that would be, unfortunately, the Playmaker's "B" or "G" radio. In other words, if you can turn off "N" wireless in this scenario, it's possible that it will solve your problem. On my network I had many problems with Airplay dropouts CONSTANTLY and turned off everything except wireless N, because I don't have any B or G devices anymore. Voila, Airplay dropouts 99 percent solved. When my Playmaker shows up, I'll of course have to do the reverse.

If you'd rather not hobble the network that way, then you are just going to have to experiment with different routers as explained above, until you find a combination that works better.
