I just updated the PCB of  my Beolab 3500 from SW 1.2 to 2.1, performed speaker calibration and option programming, but there comes no sound from the 3500 and you can not change volume etc. It switches on with e.g. Radio comand, but no sound. I switched off and on the whole ML system, but nothing changed. The main system also doesn't start up.

The Timer light on the BL3500 is always on and I can't switch of this timer. Everything I found in the manuals doesn't work.

Any idea ?

EDIT: Putting back PCB with SW 1.2 everything works like a charm.

Ok, here's some more info.

My ML system consists of a BS900, a BM1 and two BL3500. I changed PCB3 on the older of my BL3500 which has SW 1.2. The other BL3500 has SW 2.0. I didn't try updating this.

What I did on the BL3500 where I updated to SW 2.1 were the tests which are suggested in the service manual. All tests are ok.

The only thing that looks strange is that all three counters A,B and C read 64660. This was not the case when SW 1.2 was installed.

Martin,

I am assuming that when you upgraded the Beolab 3500 to version 2.1 you also used the command to switch between MCL and Masterlink ?

Hi Keith,

You're the man I waited for.

I did what what the upgrade description said. How do I turn ML on ?

The comand Menu Menu 0 2 Play does not work. When I press the upward arrow BL3500 goes back to the red standby dot. The timer light stays on too.

This afternoon I tried again with no success.

Service Manual states that command MENU MENU 0 2 PLAY only opens Test Mode 2, which shows the status of ML bus. There is nothing to change there, so I assume that this is not the right command to change between ML and MCL.

What makes me wonder is that the fitting instruction which came with PCB3 does not say a word about the option change from MCL to ML and vice versa.

Only to use a Beolink 1000 to program link options with LINK 2 PLAY or LINK 4 PLAY and the speaker calibration process.

Any ideas though ?

Try the same with 9 instead of 2, so:

MENU 0 9 PLAY should display ML OFF, then ^ (up) should change to ML ON (and of course v (down) reverts to ML OFF).

MENU 0 2 PLAY displays status of ML; eventually only when in ML mode.

I don't have a LCS9000 / BL3500 but my LCS9000 ML correction leaflet mentions this.

Just a shot in the dark but you never know ;-)

Thanks Gunther Smile

MENU 0 9 PLAY is the right command to switch ML on and off.

But in my case it doesn't make any difference. There comes no sound from BL3500 and it doesn't switch on my BS9000.

The Masterlink plug/cable is definitly not defective as I replaced PCB3 with BL3500 on the wall without removing any connection. I switched off power with main fuse and unplugged ML on my patch panel.

What options do I have now ?

- Try to use the other PCB3 SW 2.1 I have for my second BL3500 ?

- Try PCB3 SW 2.0 from the second BL3500 on the one which is currently not working with SW 2.1 ?

- Call the dealer and wait what he will say ?

What would you do ?

I found this instruction on our site:

To use the MasterLink you need to remove the black plug and enable it via a service menu command. To get into the service menu to switch between ML & MCL press MENU then MENU then 0 then 2 then PLAY, then use the up arrow to switch, then store

Hope this will work for you.

BeoHut:

MENU MENU 0 2 PLAY does not work, it's MENU MENU 0 9 PLAY that switches between MCL and ML.

Just did a test at home. My BL3500 is set in Opt. 4 so I typed: Link, Menu, Menu, 0, 2, Play.

Now I can switch with the arrow keys on my BL1000 to ML On or ML Off.

This works for me.

Hope it will do for you with addition of the Link command.

Do you have SW 2.1 too ?

It's really strange what is going on with my BL3500 Crying

I also tried all options except option 0 which disables IR. Mine is currently set to option 2 as it is mounted in a different room as my main system.

Hi BeoIce,

Just checked, and it is SW version 2.1 (installed by the dealer), but I am using the MCL-socket instead of the ML-socket. I can switch with link, menu, menu, 0, 2, play instead of 9 or the last number. Very, very strange! Too bad I cannot help you now any further. Suc6!

Well done Martin, The PCB3 being faulty was going to be the next step, you just need to get it replaced by B&O now.

Sorry I was late coming back to you...
