One thing I'm noticing is people are dropping in URLs within their posts - always great, thanks - but do not turn them in to clickable links. You can't click them, which is bad for iPad users as you can't copy the URL either. It's just a dead link.

The A little beast from behind? thread is a very good example with a few posts with non-clickable links. BeoLab 14 - The Video is a thread where the opening post contains a link to a video which isn't clickable.

When adding a URL to your post, drop the URL in as text, highlight the URL, click the blue chain icon in the editor above, drop in the URL and set it as a "blank" target, if possible.

I agree with you moxxey. Lately theres been a lot of links (which is great) but almost none are clickable.

Maybe someone can make the forum options when posting a link more clear and easy to understand how so that people will know how to.

There isn't much that can be done about it - the editor that is used for composing posts is a separate, integrable product called TinyMCE. It basically is what it is, and us here can't alter it much apart from selecting the functions and buttons that are available in each mode. I agree we could write a few tips and tricks somewhere so users might hopefully benefit from them - forming links isn't at all obvious unless you are interested enough to poke around.

Anyway, a little bit of time wasted in learning to use the features won't be limited to Beoworld, because TinyMCE is used in countless other forums, content management systems, blog authoring platforms, etc as well.

I agree that in a perfect world linking could be easier or even automatic, but basically this boils down to whether the authors value a few seconds of their time more than a few seconds of a hundred readers' time. In addition to linkable URLs, I would appreciate more widespread use of capital initial letters, punctuation and division of thoughts into sentences, all in the name of improved readability... Smile

EDIT: added a link above Big Smile

If a URL isn't turned in to a clickable link, it's just text on a web page. Wouldn't matter if you have an Android device or a computer. I've just tried the YouTube link at http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/5978.aspx on Internet Explorer, Chrome and Safari and it's not a clickable link. How would using an Android device make a difference?

If you make a suggestion, at least qualify it please :)

It was a flippant comment - but next time I will be far more careful and apply full analysis and 'qualification'!

This forum used to be much more fun!

It isn't quite that bad, because on Firefox you can paint (or triple-click) the URL to select it, then you can open it directly from the right button context menu. At least when you have a right button, dunno about other systems...

Sorry Moxxey,

I am writing most of my comments/posts on my iPad.

Dropping "the URL in as text, highlight the URL, click the blue chain icon in the editor above, drop in the URL and set it as a "blank" target, if possible" must be the way to do it on a pc/mac. I do not see this option on the iPod!

It really isn't much work to copy the URL and to open it manually - years ago this was for security reasons the way 'one should do it'.

On an iPad 'copy and paste' works well - don't know why you write "which is bad for iPad users as you can't copy the URL either"?

i just copied the above quotation from your post!

What bothers me more posting from the iPad, is that it is not possible to post/upload pictures.

For this I have to get out of the couch and walk upstairs to my Mac - well, I am already sweating....thinking about it 😓

On the other hand - if I would only post from my Mac, I would write far less comments.

If that might be an advantage, I must let others decide Embarrassed

Thanks Moxxey for raising the suggestion.

Whenever I reply to someone's unclickable link I almost always quote the link and make it clickable as a simple courtesy for subsequent readers and quoters

Millie had discussed the challenges of doing this on iDevices ... but on his upstairs Mac Smile he can do the same as you even without a mouse and any buttons ... Big Smile <== indicates this is a fun post

While we are discussing "clickable links" - no one seems to use the insert video feature either, rather they add a clickable link or the link text as above.

Does anyone think that inline video is more "readable"??

Ban boring signatures!

There is a great feature in iOS you can use and I bet you already made a shortcut to post your greetings 50 times a day. Grrr!! Stick out tongue

[ur]http://[/url] as phrase, shortcut i.e url.

Now after the correction is dropped, paste your url after the last forward slash.

Same for pictures, but now replace url for img

The http:// part has to be in there, to make it clickable..

Mille, I may have a solution so I am testing this technique on my iPhone ... And even this does not quite work perhaps Keith can implement this bbcode for us:

Type [ URL ] paste-your-link [/ URL ] without the spaces

http://www.icepower.bang-olufsen.com/files/solutions/icepower150ash7.pdf

Now did the work ???

If that works, iPad-writers have no excuses anymore Stick out tongue

UPDATE: it works!!!

Maybe we can do it this way too?

UPDATE 2: which also works Big Smile

Now all we need to know is how to upload a picture, when writing on an iPad?
