Hi folks.

I've just got my hands on a lovely beovision 7 (Mk 3) /  7.1 and motorised floor stand to replace an equally lovely Avant 32 DVD which is now surplus to requirements.

Anyway, I'm having a few "issues" with the speaker menus - not using any additional speakers just yet. Tried to select just the BL7.1 as centre speaker but that produces no sound at all when watching a DVD. If I add in anther option for "front" speakers (which I can't seem to do unless centre is also selected!?) I get a choice of the usual suspects - BL 6000, 8000 etc. And then when watching a DVD I get several sound options, one of which sound right.

Can anyone (in language suitable for an idiot to understand) explain exactly how I set the tv up just to use the BL7.1 please?

Many thanks in advance.

Dan

Yes - you're using the wrong input for the 7.1.

Try looking away from the Dolby Module with the 5 outputs and more towards the centre bottom of the rear of the set, where you will see two powerlink sockets next to each other.

Bang the 7.1 into one of those, and that should produce results!

Hi there and welcome,

I don't have a BV7, but I had a look at the on-line manual - I assume you have read it?  Is it a problem within the SPEAKER ROLES setting, ie is the centre speaker set to be off whatever the role?

EDIT:  But Lee's answer seems much more likely!!!

Brilliant - thanks Lee. Did the trick.

Next issue...I'm currently using this with a BT Vision box. If I switch from BT to DVD, and then back to BT, I get a message that there is no signal being received. If I remove the scart, and re-insert, bingo- picture back again. I assume Scart is the only option. Couldn't see an HDMI slot anywhere.

Very pleased with the tv. Never thought anything could sound better than the Avant out of the box. Pic on DVD's is awesome too. Noticeably better than the Avant (100hz RF)

I assume the Avant is worth about 48p these days to sell on? Angry

Edit - switching to any other source, TV or DVD has the same effect. IE, switching back to DTV = no picture or sound unless scart pulled and re-inserted.

The Humax BT vision box only has an HDMI socket.

The TV as far as I can see only has a dvi socket.

I presume to watch HD channels I'll need a dvi - HDMI adapter lead?

Also - totally confused (and yes I've downloaded the instructions) as to what settings if any I need for the tv.  In set up - options - connections I have a list of AV connections. I've tried different combinations, such as decoder, STB (V.AUX) etc...Clueless as to how to set this all up really and the instructions as I say don't really help much.

Any help really appreciated - been messing about for hours now and would like to get this new toy working properly!

Thanks

Hi there. If the TV is a mk3 you can use the dvi port for picture only. You would have to use a scarf for sound.

Which is of course correct.  If you have a BeoVision 7-32" Mk3 (and even as late as Mk4!) then you need to take the Video feed from a HDMI source into the DVI port, using a female HDMI to male DVI adaptor.

The sound can come from the Freeview/Sky box using either a Scart Lead, or by using component audio.  It depends entirely on the output(s) on your box.

Yup - aware the DVI is picture only, but any idea of the above symptoms, ie no signal being displayed when I switch back to DTV after swapping to another source, other than by removing and re-inserting the scart?

Thanks so much

Sure.. have you assigned the box to STB(DTV) in the connections menu, and told it DVI-I as the connection?

By disconnecting and re-connecting the scart you're kind of 'forcing' the signal through.

Thanks Lee.

Not yet. Not got an HDMI - DVI lead as yet, so was just connected by scart. I will re-assess when I have the lead.

Cheers

In that case, check the Scart connection is going into the socket which corresponds with the assigned button on your remote.

For instance, in the Setup -> Connections menu, make sure the box is (for instance) connected to the Decoder socket, then make sure that under 'Decoder' in the menu you have STB(DTV) assigned. After that, press GO to store.

Then, when you press DTV on your remote it opens up the Decoder port and shows whatever you're pumping into it. Simples!

Try that...
