While browsing the new S-class 2013 pictures I noticed the brand Burmester as sound system, that triggered extra curiosity antenna’s at me. So I browsed the for me reference websites, no sign of Bang & Olufsen any more regarding the new S-class. On the official MB website the options only show the Burmester availability. Does anyone know if Bang & Olufsen is working on a sound system? Has anyone spotted a S-class close to the Danish development department?
The pictures show a Danish speaker grill similarity…
Visual: The tweeters rotate! As a visual highlight, the tweeters in the mirror triangles of the front doors are particularly sophisticated. When the head unit is switched on, they rotate by 360° and perform a screwing motion of ten millimetres towards the occupant. This ideally aligns the tweeters for an optimal sound impression. If the ambience lighting is switched on, the two tweeters are illuminated in one of the seven available colours. The same applies to the overhead console, which is also elegantly emphasised by the ambience lighting and accommodates two of the three overhead speakers.
Has Berlin home city for Burmester won on Struer this time? http://www.burmester.de/en/home/http://www.burmester.de/en/Company/Burmester-Automotive/
From the MB Website:As alternatives to the standard sound system with ten loudspeakers, two very high-quality audio systems are available which were developed together with hi-fi specialists at Burmester: Burmester® Surround Sound system and Burmester® High-End 3D Surround Sound system.

I would like to think bang and olufsen would be out of place in this baroque device.

It's the 2014 model year, not 2013, and it's chassis "W222".
B&O is being dropped as an option for that series but will still be offered on other line ups. Burmester is much more fitting as that brand is truly one of the highest of the high end companies. And MB is trying to integrate a "super high end feel" into the W222 since the Maybach is being discontinued. From what i've seen the burmester looks to be much more integrated into the car, at least from a visual standpoint. the grilles in particular look great. B&O's stuff in the s-class never quite integrated visually, and even kind of looked cheap IMO. Their hardware visually worked much better in the audis and astons, bmw, so so.
Raeuber:In highend-cars (not only the new S-class, but also Porsche) you will find high-end audio-systems, and these are Burmester and not B&O! Regards Räuber
Hey, an opinion! You write these are, do you mean more brands? When you have the chance to drive the new S-class equipped with Burmester and listen to your favorite music I hope you tell us here how good it is. And compare Burmester to other car sound systems.

That is one seriously ugly car. Whatever happened to style ?

Agree, totally.

And their home hifi kit is awful - may sound great, may be powerful but would be impossible to live with

It looks like style has gone out of fashion... Coco Chanel was wrong after all. I miss the old days...

I think it's absolutely beautiful - I want one, and I'm prepared to work as hard as it takes to get one..

The new S-Class is indeed a very derivative and somewhat bland design, but I'm not surprised by the inclusion of a very high end brand such as Burmester in place of B&O. In fact, did the W221 EVER have B&O, anyway? I thought it was always Harman/Kardon.
You have to understand that with the exit of Maybach the S-Class now has the responsibility of extending further up in the Mercedes hierarchy than it has before. And if all of the "normal" Mercs have B&O, well then the king of the hill have to differentiate. Burmester is even more top shelf Cristal than B&O, and thus its place in the S.
If anything I'm less concerned that a particular car doesn't have B&O than with the fact that B&O chose to enter that market in the first place. The Audis I have been in with the B&O systems have been rather unimpressive. Have to pay the bills, I guess.

Burmester are more explusive than B&O, but not only that. Mercedes want to keep the car German as possible. B&O is Danish. Burmester is all handmade in Berlin

Style is intuitive . Styling is different. Gordon Wagener is running Mercedes styling and Bruno Sacco ran the Mercedes Style.
I'm surprised Mercedes wants to associate with a company which sells hoaxware like this:

Oh, thats absolutely minimum. I always ask my power station to use that extra polished coal for me, not standard.

-and remember to use those veeery expensive 99,999% pure silver cables when you plug it into the wall-socket

You have not seen my gold plated in-wall wiring. It runs only from east to west to make earths magnetic field effect even, so I can use same settings in all my electricity magnetfield removing devices, and thus achive more stable system.
Hum, sorry. This goes a little bit out of S-series..... BTW, I wonder if they use that audioplhile rubber on tires...?
Only ML, GL, E-Class, SLS and last S-Class could have B&O optional sound system.
But I agree Burmester is most Hi-End audio brand than B&O.
This is going pretty off topic, but this distinction between Burmeister and B&O is why I like B&O more than a lot of the audio industry.
They do really well at staying away from the audiophile voodoo hoodoo and pseudoscience that so many of the other companies take advantage of.
Sure they will sell you $10,000 speakers, but the cables to go with them? Just $30.

Nobody believed me until you posted this! Thanks!

Sorry I haven't been paying attention. I definitely agree with you.
So, they have been unimpressive - but how about the sound system..?

Boy isn't that the truth! There is NOTHING special to power link cables at ALL, and B&O never try to market them in any way other than "here, this is what you need to connect X and Y". I too noticed that.
Lol, I thought I was going to get ripped for posting that (and by the way Steffen, funny comment!), but I attend auto auctions regularly in my line of business and the various Audis I've sat in with B&O just are nothing like the quality of the home B&O system. The electrically raising tweeters are a VERY cool little touch, especially in this day and age where we've lost so many of the special "gimmicks" from the B&O days of old, but the sound itself was certainly nothing special. This goes for the A4 to Q7 to the A8.
As a recovering Audiophile ... the boom-boom clap-clap qualities of a horseless carriage NEVER made a difference to me. H3ll, I have owned vehicles that NEVER even had the audio system turned on.

[][][][][] That was awesome, but yes, something LIKE THIS!
Just so that everyone is on the same page, I genuinely dislike audio. I only buy B&o 'cuz it looks cool.

Can I play the off topic game, too?
I only buy B&O 'cause Jeff does.
