The mind boggles.
Why on earth would anyone do THIS?
Unbelievable! He says they were in good condition when he got them! He is clearly a Visigoth!

WTF?!
Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
Yes, I had come across this miserable thing. Oh dear.
Jacques
I wish I hadn't seen that
The seller obviously wanted to make them more portable
Very overpriced!
Much easier to lift them in & out of the trunk when round and about.

Nice handle bar to push the car when the battery is empty ;-)
It begging for someone to ask really isn't it! I wonder if these were used for AV shows?
Olly
I like the idea, a handle on a Beobox, very funny
Brengen & Ophalen
The guy had same handles on his kitchen closets, and wanted the speakers to match the look, I wonder why he didn't put wheels on them too.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
That's a good idea Soren! Think I'm gonna do both on my heavy Beovox 5000 oldies.
Hi - Would like you to know that this is my advert - and no unlike you lot I am not an expert on B&O. The advert is not a fraud and everything in it is true! I did inherit them from an elderly relative and no I did not know that the handles were an addition. If you read the advert you can see that I really do not know what I am selling and so I chose the price out of 'thin air' but I did give people the opportunity to offer a lower bid! And also yes I am female, so less of the 'he'
The advert was posted with its history as I thought people might like to know where it came from. Not all Ebayers are liars! Often people put no information at all - which would you rather have?!
I am quite insulted by your thread - it smacks of pompous arrogance, but then what can I expect for a bunch of 'experts'! At the end of the day with or without handles the speakers are nice items - for someone
wiggywoman,
Welcome to Beoworld !
First, I would like to apologize if you feel offended by this thread.
Second, I hope you understand that whatever has been said in this thread about the unusual adding of the handles, was not minded upon you but rather the person, who added the handles.
To some people, these speakers could be nothing more than a pair of old boxes of an unknown brand and not allowners are aware what they actually have in their hands - a pair of the finest 3-way system Uniphase speakers for their size and age, designed by one of the most famous industrial designers and architects, produced by a worldwide respected danish hifi brand in realrio palisander rosewood finish with eloxated aluminum trims.
It could also be that the owner WAS aware of the above but simply needed the speakers to have handles to make sense. In any case, it would be perfectly alright to add the handles. It's the owners choice to do whatever he/she pleases but pleaseallow us to wonder a bit and have a little fun.I can tell you, we've seen worse, even from 'experts' !
With Bang & Olufsen items in general, condition is everything. Even with the handles removed, the tiny holes on top of the speakersfrom where the screws were, will pull down the interest and the selling price considerably. This has nothing to do witharrogance at all, it's just a mere fact with classic design pieces like this.
Actually, our member piaf, I think, will be out to shop some parts for this model, parts are hard to come by, and your speakerswould be perfect donor material. Actually, in their present condition they could easily be worth more in parts than whole speakers.

I don't think it was meant as a personal attack Wiggywoman, I certainly know the OP isn't that type of person in fact very welcoming and pleasant chap when I met him :) To be honest we probably get a little protective and reactive when we see things done to B&O gear that we don't understand, or wouldn't do ourselves. Please don't take offense! If anything, this thread has probably got you more coverage and will guarantee a sale now :) The screw holes will be quite sortable by someone who really knows what they are doing!
Out of interest, do you know why the handles were installed?

Apologies, but it's still funny, handles on a loudspeaker , why not?
Ok ok perhaps I am being alittle over sensitive here - but the implication that I was perhaps being economical with the truth about these speakers bugged me a bit!
I was alerted to your thread by another Ebay member (and perhaps a member of Beoworld?!)
When I said 'they were in good condition when I got them' I meant that they had been looked after as in not being knocked about or scraped up! I am guessing that my stepmothers father (he was the owner) added the handles at some point to make them easier to move about - they are extremely heavy - he probably didnt realise or even care that it would devalue them
Anyway I have relisted them now with a more realistic price and yes perhaps someone could use them for parts - I would be terribly gratefult to be rid to be honest as they are of no use to me.
I have also listed a working Beomaster 1100 and I did list a Beogram 8002 as spares or repair (long story about why it wasnt working) but this sold last week.
No hard feelings anyway! Cheers
As the originator of this thread I apologoise if any offence has been taken.
It was indeed not a dig at you but at the person who fitted these handles in the first place & most DEFINATELY NOT aimed at discrediting your intergity as a seller.
I cannot really add to the reasons already stated as to why wood butchery on this level makes most of us here cringe (well me certainly) as we treat our vintage B&O with the same care as lavished on a work of art. Hope this thread does create some interest for your sale.
I must admit - I've been accused of being many things in my checkered life but pompous is definately another one I can add to the list. All I need now is for someone to call me unctuous & I'll have a full set.
Chris.
Dear Wiggywoman
Also from here apologies for making fun of your posting, but as you now are a forum member, I welcome you to the forum, you will find a forum with members that goes out of their way to help each other in any way possible, from around the the world there are good advises, tech. knowledge, geeks in every form, we have mechanical, electronic, wood, fabric, paint, metal experts as members and all of us help each other, keeping vintage and newer B&O equipment up to date and working.
If you after a time on the forum get interested in starting a collection, I must warn you, after your first couple of pieces, you may get infected with the BeoVirus, like many of us, there is no cure, the only way to keep it calm is to feed it with B&O equipment.
Welcome to the forum
Soren
Welcome to the forum and don't take notice , sometime "experts" get carried away and forgot that firstly they're human beings with feelings ;) don't get put out by comments representing nothing but personal view.
There is lot's of speakers they have handles - just not B&O's (otherwise you won't be able carry them - one of my perfect examples (used to own in my Technics stage) was RS 7000 SB, and no offence to anyone as I haven't seen the add on eBay - different people have different ideas and god condition means different things to them.
In my opinion few tiny holes (quiet easily patchable) won't make any item worth nothing - careless shippers on the the end will reduce it in pile of rubble
Don't worry - be Happy
