Hi guys! I'm a new fan of the bang and olufsen gear and i decided to purchase a vintage system to pair with my triangle speakers. In my country's second hand market i came across 2 systems:

beosystem 6500 (cd +amp tuner+ deck) priced around 600-700 euro and

beocenter 8500 priced around 200 euro.

My question is very simple: is the 6500 much better than 8500? Is it worth it's money? Because if the difference in sound quality is not that big i will buy the beocenter 8500. Thank you.

I wouldn't say that there's a difference in sound quality, but you will not have the 2-way communication with the BC8500 if that matters at all to you. The 8xxx Series Beocenters were kind of the red headed step-children of that line and I certainly have never even seen one in the flesh. That said, the differences between the very desirable 9500 and 8500 really aren't that great and come down to a different surface finish for the metal section, lack of a timer and lack of the two way communication function (useful if you ever want to get a Beolink 7000 remote control).

For the difference in price, and if everything on the BC8500 is in perfect working order I would take the 8500. Even if there's something to be repaired on the 8500 (and most likely the glass panels will need re-glueing, they all do eventually), you have PLENTY of budget left over to make the needed repairs.

Thank you very much for your answer! It is exactly what i expected to hear. Indeed the 8500 needs reglueing the touch panels and a new set of belts for the tape deck. I was hoping to fix both of the problems if i would decide to go for the 8500. My main concern is the sound quality, I want to get the best sound for my money. Best regards!
