Good mornig

I have a little problem with my DVD Avant Controller; before recapping wasn't able to read the DVD TOC, after recapping it reads dvd, start executing but after a couple of minutes the image freezes and the controller starts to jump over dvd chapters. Tried using a cooler spray over the IC on the pcb but nothing change. I have no idea what to do and a new controller costs much more the whole set itself.

Could someone give son hints? I exchanged the controller with another from Philips donor but it seems to be an "autentication code" by the controller and B&O interface PCB.

I have no idea how to solve the problem :(

Regards in advance to all the helper :)))))

What did you change? Which capacitators? I have bought a few lasers for the Avant and I am just in the project of replacing one :) Perhaps I should have a look at the electronics also?

Hi Michael

I replaced all capacitors in the controller board (also called MONO board); there is no reason to replace them if the unit works correctly. :)

Hi NoBit,

I did not even think about doing that. Is it one of these boards that you mean?

I´ll take a look at it today. Did you have bulging capacitators on yours? I have two Avants so I should have a look :)

No I didn't. Consider that the bulging surface is the LAST step of a capacitor decadence. Before that there is a value variation and internal resistance increasing value.

ciao ciao

Thanks for the info! :) I am not super familiar with the electronic components on the boards but I try :).

I have two units because the first DVD failed, and now I try to fix it so I can sell it or use it in another location. The new one is also starting to behave a bit odd on DVDs.

I did order a few lasers and I think that the problem lies in the laser at least partly. You seem to have had success replacing the caps but perhaps that is not all that is necessary.
