When playing cassettes on my BeoCenter 9000 sporadically the 9000 engages the Dolby B function which seriously affects the sound in a negative way.
Once the Dolby is turned off, problem solved…. but is it? A few more plays and the Dolby B comes back.
After turning the Dolby off I immediately press STORE, but that doesn’t seem to do the trick.
Any ideas on this one?
Jeff

Ah come on guys, this is ridiculous. I don’t want the Dolby on and it just keeps coming back on intermittently. There MUST be a way to turn it off permanently. No ideas?
Yet again I'm amazed at the thought that went into the design of these Beocentre's!!!!
I've looked at the user guide, and checked my BC9000,and you CAN disable the Dolby tape noise reduction system.
Touch the "Dolby" sensor to select the mode you want (ie,no Dolby)then keep your finger on the sensor until the "Dolby" light blinks. The "Dolby" mode is now locked, but will revert to auto select mode when you eject the tape.
Enjoy those tapes, they are not as bad as we are told!

Nick
Thank you Nick,
I had tried hitting STORE after dismissing the Dolby, but didn’t think to keep my finger on the DOLBY light.
And you are perfectly correct in saying that these Cassettes are not as bad as we were told. Tapes deteriorate with age, but I have many that have remarkable performance and which sound equally well on my BeoCenter 9000 as they do on the Beocord 8004 and 9000. (Of course the Beocords are simple to switch off the Dolby, but they are older technology.)

I have nearly all my 45s recorded to tapes, the older 45s recorded with noise reduction and the sound is better than from the BG.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
There is something else about tapes besides their ability to alter sound (for better or worse) and that is they can be personal.
When we make a tape it is the music we want in the order we want to create a specific mood. I have serious tapes for the right occasion as well as very up-beat tapes, both are uncommonly good at setting the “feel” of the moment.
In addition tapes can be a snapshot in time, a piece of history as it were. Although at the time I was recording music from the radio I did everything in my power to avoid commercials and DJ’s yelling out the station’s call letters, however those that slipped by now add a treasured spice to my tape collection….. “And now a twin-spin on WLCY- 138.”
WLCY AM 138 and its teen-oriented format are long gone, but are alive and well on my cassette tapes and never fail to put a little smile on my face.
The “crown jewel” of these “historic” audio blasts from the past is the original sign-off reel-to-reel tape. As your typical mischievous teenager I looked forward to staying up until midnight Sunday night so that I could hear the station sign-off.
A DJ with a particularly twisted sense of humor inserted possibly the worst and certainly the most offensive version of the US National anthem ever performed and the (untrue) rumor of the day was that it was the station owner’s wife. Point of fact I believe it was Mrs. Miller, a housewife who used her truly terrible singing voice to launch a brief, but colorful singing career on the variety shows of the time.
Staying up late to hear the butchered National Anthem made a rather innocent teenager feel just a bit naughty….. until someone complained to the FCC who yanked the mildly offensive piece off the air. However I still have it all on both reel-to-reel and cassette tapes.
