I have an MCL2A sensor which requires the remote control to be pointed directly at it. Volume adjustment can be tricky as the sensor can 'miss' the command. Can it be assumed that I have a faulty sensor or perhaps the MCL2A control box is not working as it should? I have two other MCL2A's and the remote can be pointed anywhere in the room - normal for a B&O product.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I would start by opening the transceiver and clean off dust. Chances are it's just that.
Next step might be to change caps in the transceiver and/or the MCL2A. Also check the binding posts in the MCL2A (where the transceiver cable is connected) to ensure good contact.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did clear a little dust from inside the tranciever (but not much) and checked the terminals in the control box. All are OK but it still the same sensitivity wise. It will not tolerate even 10 degrees right or left of the tranciever for some reason. The unit is serial number 195xx both MCL2A and tranciever were bought new in 2008.
For information this fault has cleared and the system is working normally after being shut down overnight. The cause is a mystery.

Yes! Odd goings on in this house recently lots of unexplained broadband router problems also. Maybe the power of the sun at this time of year effects the electronics. The MCL system is generally so reliable and robust.

Despite the usual reliability of the MCL system,the ir reception can be affected by stray infra red from eco lamps,and of course direct sunlight.Noise builds up and confuses the upc in the transceiver(there is no "inteligence" in the relay box).Turning the power off resets the upc.
It's also common for the ir receiver diode to become noisy with age,and this limits or often stops the remote control operation.Simple to replace,and available from Maplin.

Thank you for the interesting reply. Yes, a power reset did the trick. Its the first time this has happened so testament to the reliability of the MCL system. The tranceivers are normally very sensitive, although I have found the sensor in the Avant to be even more so. By the way I got round the problem of getting stereo sound from video sources to my Avant link TV by first electing the video source then using the command AV>A.AUX. The standard command AV>Video source does not work with the Avant/1611/MCL2AV
