Hi I have come across a  Beo Sound 5 encore unit and have no idea what to do with it. The unit come with its wall mounting ,  video and USB leads but no power lead. What should i do. I was thinking of buying a power lead to test its working but have no idea what to do after that.  If the unit works can i just connect it to a normal windows PC. I could either connect it to my laptop but currently use  ITunes. have an old Win XP base unit i could use and a nice pair of speakers.or do i have to buy a Beo Master 5 which to be honest is not going to happen.  Is there a a market for a second hand BS5 encore unit.

Yes there is a market for BeoSound 5 Encores, I have in-fact been looking for one for quite some time here in the states as the Encore has the ability of not needing the Beomaster 5 (which the original Beosound 5 does not). If you want to play with it you can buy the power adapter on Ebay or from your local B&O store. I believe I have seen the power adapter on Ebay for between 80 and 100.00 for the US 120v version.

Please, please don't mess this up.

The BeoSound5Encore is a 'standalone' player.it needs a DLNA server to play music and/or internet connection for the 'NetRadio'

The Beosound5 needs a BeoMaster5, which holds the content (the music) and the system software.

The BS5 is just the fronthead, the user interface.

It is of no!!! use without the BM5.

From your describtion you have a BeoSound5 - NOT the Encore!!!

How did you "come across" that?

If that is so, you must either buy ("come across") a BM5 - to use it, or try to sell it!

Greetings Millemissen

I think Millemissen is assuming you have a 5 and not an Encore because of the video cable which would be used to attach it to the Beomaster 5. And if that's the case the BS5 is basically useless without it.

Or, for general interest, you could do what nobody else has bothered to do so far:

Plug the USB cables into a computer, and note whether it comes up as a generic HID device or something that needs special drivers. And plug the video cable into a computer and see if you get a picture on the BS5 screen (note the resolution).

And then sell it, it'll still probably be useless without a BM5.

EDIT: after reading a second time, that basically was what you were going to do Big Smile I still suspect it'll either be a fancy one-way mouse, or more likely, the prettiest "unknown device" you ever saw...

Was my post really that unclear???

What is shown on the picture is either a BS5 or a BS5E - you can't tell the difference from the picture.

But your conclusion is right: the BS5 as fronthead solo is useless.

There is no sense in trying to connect it to any computer, won't work.

It needs the system SW that runs on a BM5 (which is basicly an embedded WIN-XP pc).

As far as I know noone has emulated that on a conventional pc.

So, best buy a BM5, or wait untill someone needs the BS5 as a spare part.

Grrr! Millemissen
