Ok BS9000 experts, Graham et al... I need a little help here.

As you may remember I got my Mk I BS9000 with my Penta IIIs a vertical stand and a Beo4 for a really great price (about as much as a Mk I BS9k by itself) partially because the seller just wanted it all gone and partially because when we tested it at his house the carriage was sticking though when it did get to a CD it played fine. Occasionally it would loosen up and move.

Well fast forward a few days and I'd all but forgotten about it as it had been in my trunk (in its box) so I pulled it out tonight to play with it and I noticed the adjustment screws were set for vertical positioning even though we had it flat when we were testing. Still, I've never known this to cause a problem with the movement of the *carriage* itself, only when trying to play the CDs so I don't really feel bad for missing this. So I turned the player vertical and it began to move just fine *but* there is a sound when the CDs are loaded almost like its hitting each one a little bit as it moves across in either direction. I SUSPECT that when it was laying flat and after sitting for so long, the friction from whatever this issue is combined with the wrong position setting was enough to keep it from moving, or perhaps maybe just with jostling it around and using it the carriage has freed up. Either way, I took a microfiber cloth and cleaned out all the dust I could find from the places I could get to easily. Still, in either vertical or horizontal orientation I get just a little bit of "touching" on each CD as it moves. What's interesting is that it does NOT touch the CDs when the CDs are spinning. They spin just fine. The only contact I can hear is when it is moving side to side.

So I know from previous posts that Graham replied to that there are some kind of adjustment screws under the clamper's top cover that are for the clamper's individual adjustment, but since it isn't touching the CDs when they play I have no idea if I should be messing with this. There's plenty of clearance between the upper clamper "fork" and the CD when it is playing.
