Hi Guys,

So long story short I picked up some S45 Type 6427 speakers for around $75 (US) shipped and knew that they would have to be refoamed. Unfortunately USPS dropped them and the one had a magnet issue. I mistakenly thought that I could fix it. In the process I ruined the voice coil (simple ignorance, I admit that I am as far from a trained professional as there is) and ended up chucking that woofer (possibly mistake number 2?).

My question is now... how would you proceed. The one woofer works and I have everything set to refoam it. Do I see if I can order a new woofer for the other speaker from B&O, if it is even possible? I looked and saw that someone on Instructables had used an aftermarket woofer and seemed happy with it. As a B&O diehard I am not sure if I'll be happy though...

Here's the link for the instructables as well as the woofer they used. I am open to all thoughts and opinions at this point.

Thank you!

As another alternative, I see that I might be able to retrofit these woofers from S30s

B&O no longer supply any parts for this model but I may
be able to find an original woofer or two, already refoam'ed and all.
However, I don't dare to think of the postage cost from Denmark.

Martin,

You are a life saver! If you could give me a price I'd be interested in doing it. It would be terrible to let these speakers sit idle. I presume you could glue the magnet so it doesn't move in its trans-Atlantic shipment?

Also, I have a pair of S45-2s and I am considering using these newer 2 way S45s instead. Will they be underwhelming in comparison (based on your experience)?

The Beovox S45 (6427) are good speakers in their own right and for a two-way system they are actually
not bad sounding, even if B&O produced better sounding 2-way systems in the 1970s, like Beovox S35 and S40.
However, I would prefer the S45-2 (6312) any day. Same goes for the early Beovox S45 (6302).
