"Transferred from the archived forum  ---   I am still collecting these information"

I am trying to find out the production qty of the classic Beolab 5000 type 5303 and the Beomaster 5000 type 2005 of 1967-72. This is possible by knowing / identifying the serial number and the series of the products.

I hope you owners of these wonderful products will help by sending me the informations of your products

Please look at the label of your product and send me:

  • Product: [Beolab 5000 or Beomaster 5000]
  • Serial number [5 digit]
  • Serie [2 digit]

It looks like this on your product and I need the information like

  • Beolab 5000
  • Serial no: 46901
  • Serie: 06

I do hope to recieve a lot of product info and I will afterwards show the result here of course. At this moment I have the identity of some 70 pairs of BL/BM 5000.

/Frede

Here you see a typical label:

Hi Frede, once again today,

I must admit, I overlooked your thread. But if you are still collecting the numbers, here are mine:

BL5000 - Type5303
Serie 03
15362

BM5000 - Type 2007
Serie 01
16714

As I just noticed, the serial number of my BL5000 will change the bandwidth in the row "1967 Serie 03" Smile
Nice to know, mine were produced in the first production year.

So what happened to the series 2 Beolab and the series 5 Beomaster? And what made your listed Beomasters 'special'?

And which one is black? Big Smile

Ben

The story was:

Peter and I had a discussion regarding the Beomaster 4401 (Beomaster 4400 with black front panels).

Did this product actually exist ?

I was very lucky to find it actually and later I found one more for Peter.

I decided to make one Beolab 5000 and one Beomaster 5000 with black panels for my own use and have these products ready before a visit of Peter and Lee.

I regularly order replacement panels for Beolab 5000 and Beomaster 5000 from a factory in Denmark for my costumers and I asked this factory to produce the panels in black.

The sliders are the next problem. To get sliders with the correct text I had to scrap a Beomaster 4000.

I think a black panel Beolab is very beautiful when the wooden top is rosewood.

The black Beolab 5000 and Beomaster 5000 were ready when Peter and Lee visited me

The BM4401 that Frede gave me is superb and the black 5000 set looked fantastic. He went to rather more trouble than B&O did with the 4401 as the sliders on his had the green line rather than the red seen on silver items. But there again, Frede is well known for going above and beyond in everything he produces. My 5000 system is probably my most used system and still sounds wonderful. A Frede system is B&O that sounds better than when it first left the factory.

Great story, they both look brilliant.

Frede, hopefully my other Beomaster 5000 I sent you was useful to your database as well!

Hi

Still an old tread, but I just received my Beolab 5000 from Denmark.

It was very rusty, but I think I can get it going again. The aluminum was nice, except the volume-writing has been partially worn off from the slider.

Beolab 5000

Serial no 84663 (yes, outside the mentioned range)

Serie 09

Best regards,

Frank from Norway

Congratulation with your Beolab 5000.

Thank you for sharing the Serial no. - right now I can count 542 of serie 09 which I think means B&O have produced this serie of 1000 pcs.

Be careful if your Beolab is rusty, look for corrosion all over the Beolab and clean as mush as possible and specially attenasion to the input and output connections.

The panels - I can supply new panels with full text if you wish. Send an email.

Thank you, it is so good to know that support is out there :)

Its very impressive that you have counted 542 09 series!

I overpaied for the unit, so have to dismantle everything and give it a go with sanding and painting myself. It's all in the preparations. If the result is not 100% I will get back to you on email.

New Beolab 5000 arrived from UK. Nice condition.

Going to change the main cap and filter caps, then check how it looks. I had 60V main voltage and some 30V centre-voltage when I did a quick check today.

My first one was exactly like yours

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
