hi guys, was given a beogram 3300 today for free, guy bought a lot of gear in the auction, was not interested in the beogram, it appears to work o.k. although no cartridge as usual, the lid is present but has been removed and no sign of the four screws

the buttons on the lid are damaged or missing also, the sensor for 45 and 33 lights up, i put a record on the platter and the arm moved across o.k.

is there any other test i should make before i start the long process of cleaning the brown film that is all over it, if it comes up o.k. i will look for a cartridge, any tips appreciated, cheers

Hi!

Congratulations on your excellent purchase! If the platter is rotating freely, its suspension is working, the arm is moving linear and up/down and the unit responds to commands via BC3300, BC9000 etc. you should be fine.

When purchasing the cartridge I would recommend buying a newly produced or refurbished one (i.e. Axel). My BeoGram came with an original cartridge which looked mint but sounded somewhat crappy for the suspension of the stylus had dried out.

Best Regards!

hi, thanks for your reply, the arm is not moving up and down but i presumed it was because there is no cartridge in situ, hope that's right
