I am in part way though a major restoration of my house and would really like your thoughts on the setup for my kitchen/dining area which is a 18m long, 6m wide and 4.3m high space, with mostly hard surfaces (paster walls, ceramic tile floor and a fair bit of glass).

I am am considering BL5s for the space - given the room and my music is all digital (mostly 320kbps) through a playmaker am I going to make the best of BL5s or are the other speakers I should be considering? Very much appreciate your views.

Pushkin,

I have just opened a thread myself and in it we discuss the merits and weaknesses of the BL5. From owning the BL5 myself i would say that BL5 would be overkill for a kitchen/dining area where the most you will use is 320kbps via a playmaker. You also need to consider all the hard surfaces in a ktichen with it's hard floors - lots of echoes and lack of absorbent material will ruin the sound no matter which speaker you use. I would say that a BL9 with a good blend of quality and power would be more than adequate for background music whilst dining.

Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.

Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.

That is a big space though! I can see why you are thinking BL5s. Bit dominating though and I agree amount the reflective surfaces causing brightness.

A lot of speaker evenly spread in the area will give a shorter distance from speaker to ear, reducing problems with echoes from hard surfaces and standing waves.

A long list...

Thank you all for your thoughts. Sounds like the suggestion may be to consider BL9s. Could four BL3s with a BL11 work in terms of distributing sounds around this large space?
