Hey guys,

As I'm sure you all know,  the BeoLab 14 was recently launched.

I was at the event and have some video coverage you might not have seen yet.  The full presentation given by CEO Tue Mantoni, and a hands on of the system.

BeoLab 14 hands on

Cheers guys.

BeoLab 14 is a strange preposition to say the least. It does not offer much in terms of looks, clutter minimization  and restricts the users from using their own amplifiers.

What B&O should have done is a soundbar instead of a sub & sat system. Soundbars are all overpriced as it is so why not make an overpriced but best performing sound bar? I am sure the Beolab 14 isn't cheap to make, deliver and install. Why not squeeze all of that nonsense into a high-end soundbar?  The technology is there and it's cheap, and the market is screaming for a statement soundbar!

My local store has my perfect setup downstairs. A Beovision 7-55 mated to a pair of Beolab 5's front, and 3's at the rear. The V1 upstairs had the Beolab 14 hooked up to it, and both my work colleague and I admitted that we found it more impressive when watching the same movie track than the same £40,000 arrangement downstairs!

Hard to believe I know, but for £2,450 this thing is fantastic value for money.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Oh that's nice to know. I am sure a lot of novel technology is included to make it what it is. The performances of B&O's recent releases are great I have to admit. But if I want to go through all that trouble for surround I will get a more "serious" set.

Who wants a pseudo-surround-soundbar, when you can get the BL14 set?

No use talking about this set, if you haven't heard it yet.

The lab 14 is a welcome addition to the Beolab Family..

If I had to sell my 4 lab ones for a smaller place.I would look at this set up!

Because there will be less clutter and more convenience? And perhaps at this price point and execution, it will function more of a secondary system for most audiophiles. Plus really if you look around most people people usually buy a whole lifestyle cinema package stick all the speakers in front! And I am talking about virtually everyone I know.

It's kinda sad really that I don't have friends that take sound seriously.

B&O please make a sound bar that omits the need of a subwoofer completely. People will deep pockets usually go for screens 50inch and above. It's only common sense to cater to that end of the spectrum. Common sense is really the key. And to prevent the feel of as if you are apologizing for your own TVs, pair it with projectors for in store demonstrations. And really make a splash by making it the world's best and most press worthy sound bar.

Soundbar? BeoLab 7.1, BeoLab 7.2, BeoLab 7.6... How much power do you need?

B&O tv's always had a stereo 'sound bar' built in.

If you want more e.g. surround or a wider stereo perspective, go for the real thing!

^^^^ what they said! Everything about a sound bar goes against what B&O is about.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

lol! Well most people don't. All in one... lifestyle... presence in stores is the key

Why not pack serious sound from a package that people can buy nonchalantly in their trusted Best Buy shops? haha...

Beosound  A8 did very well so replicate the formula to make the most expensive and best performing but at a price people can afford? $5000 soundbars to go with their $6000 tvs. People really don't think B&O when they buy TVs these days plus B&O stores sell stereos which they lack interest in so.... Put B&O where they can buy together with their giant tvs.

Despite the current economy crisis people aren't as materially starved as 20yrs ago. Consumer attitudes have changed... Stylish sound systems are everywhere and why go out of the way to a specialty store when they can get a nice package in out of those electronic outfitters?

Don't add video processing just focus on sound that takes in from TV surround sound put through via HDMI and optical that function as a wireless sound dock and alarm as well. And it will be a thoroughly solid investment that will never age. Surround sound decoding never really went anywhere during the past decade.

Oh please Beosound A9? Beolit 12? Beosound A8?

Exactly how serious B&O is? I mean most of the trusty clients in the good old days used to stick the designer stereos in the corner.

Anyway I feel they have already taken quite a few of my tips but they were executed quite horribly.

And not everyone is interested in the TVs because they are quite big commitments. You get too locked in to the brand and people are paranoid these days.

Those are just plain speakers which are dedicated to B&O's tvs and no surround decoding or faux surround and no sub bass to speak of. I am talking about a sound bar that you can just throw into any electronic giant store and it will sell.

Make it shiny, put bold sound and make it available. People cycle their TV screens every 4yrs and B&O tvs just seem too precious and if Apple ever comes out with a TV... they will know what speakers they can get to go with.
