Hello,

I have Penta 2 speakers that I had the amps repaired once but have stopped working again. I have heard there is a way of bypassing the amps and using the speakers anyway. Is that true and if so, how? Or is there a place to buy amps or have them repaired in the US? I cant find anyone to look at them for under $850. There has to be a better solution to make them work again.

Thanks

Mike

The amp outputs are connected to the speakers with regular speaker connections. You need to remove the amps from the speakers to reach them. There you can connect your favorite amplifier and they will work as passive speakers.

Obviously, doing this will have a couple of other pros and cons. Pro (for some) - It will lower the overall height of the speaker. Con - It will disable the displays. Which doesn't really matter if you aren't using B&O equipment anyway.

Only if you leave the amps off. In which case a new set of screws to mount the base will be required.

So I assume when I take off the bottom plate, the amps disconnect easily and there are 2 cables for positive and negative for speaker cables somewhere to connect? I have read a lot about possibly electrocuting yourself taking off the amps, or is that just if you try to repair the amps?

thanks again

Right. The base is held by 5 nuts. Then there are another 5 nuts underneath which hold the amp in place. There are five long metal rods that go right through the amp and into the speaker. Slide the amp off and it should be obvious where to connect the wires from your amplifier.

No risk of electrocution unless you actually open the amp's cover.
