ARCHIVED FORUM -- March 2012 to February 2022READ ONLY FORUM
This is the second Archived Forum which was active between 1st March 2012 and 23rd February 2022
I was inspired to this thread from a rangefinder camera forum. I searched but didn't find a similar thread on this site so apologies if there is one already.
I thought this type of thread was best suited for the vintage forum because we all know that vintage is were it's at
I'll start: I wish I'd never sold my Beogram 4000 and Beomaster 4400. What beauties and what a fool I was for letting them go
Yes you were a fool. But you still can find them and therefore go back in time!
Jacques
I did have a huge collection and sold or gave away about 90%. Can't say I actively miss much though I regret swapping my Beosystem 7000 for a Beocenter 2 some years ago. Sound is just not as good and I miss the Beolink 7000 and its ability to program remotely.
Peter
I have no regrets all though I would like to get some items like Beolab 6000/8000 again.
The way I look at it if can't get the unit back somehow I would have to have serious reasons for letting it go in the frst place. How many Beosystem 6000 (80's) complete in white? I can always get a 6500 if I want and in the prefered color too (have done!)
With B&O you can make your choice.
Not a Beo, but I regret getting rid of my Marantz 2240B receiver, complete with walnut case. That and my McIntosh MC240 tube amp. Most of the audio gear I either still have or don't care about.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Well, how many would you like of each, they're not that rare you know...

I was not looking for confirmation!!

I do know that and I have chosen not to buy another set. I regret it more in terms of "Why can't I have a house with the need for 5 or 6 music rooms?
Occasionally regret letting my 6000 Quad go, but then I remember how much I sold it for and it's ok again!
None that I really regret letting go of, but I do wish I had more excuses to use more equipment. I just sold my pristine Beomaster 8000 because I just didn't have a place to use it. On the other hand, it was the oldest piece of equipment I had, and I wasn't looking forward to the inevitable cap problems and broken traces that would surely come eventually, which I probably wouldn't have bothered fixing and then it would have just become a paperweight. This, ironically, is also why I bought yet ANOTHER 7000 system with a CD7000 as well, as the caps in the signal chain had been replaced by the prior owner already.
Also, in all the time I've been collecting this stuff (since the beginning of the year so not TOO long) I have come across just about everything on Ebay in the US *except* for a BG4000, so I'd say in the Bang and Olufsen world they're at least somewhat rare. Dozens and dozens of those damned BG4002s but no 4000s that I've seen, anyway.

Ok, I see...

Yes I know... I'm in Canada... and the dozens and dozens of those damned BG4002 and 4004 offered in the us market NEVER ships here.... when they do, they're damaged or looks bad... Imagine now how hard it is to find a 4000 here!
Anyway... I finally managed to find a 4002 on a local ad and made a round trip to Montreal to get it... From about 5 meters, you can pretend it's a 4000... (Anyway, I think that the aluminum control pad of the 4002 and 4004 looks better than the one on the 4000, plus, the design that appears on the brochure for the Jacob Jensen exhibition for the Moma in 1978, is the one of the 4002-4004...) So .. eh!..I decided, for practical reasons, that I prefer the 4002. (and stopped seeking desperately for that magnificent 4000)
...But there was a 4000 recently sold on ebay international for a ludicrous price, didn't you saw it?

No I missed it! I think my Ebay is always set to domestic only so I probably miss a lot of international products unless they have worldwide shipping set up, then I do see the international/UK stuff.
I agree with you that the 4002 is a phenomenal turntable and even Beocentral says that in practical terms, the 4002's sound was damn near identical to the 4000 anyway. Almost stating that perhaps the 4000's complexity wasn't actually necessary.
I regret that I sold my Beomaster 2400 about 25 years ago, to buy a BM 3300. I later sold the 3300 and bought a Beosystem 4500.Later I sold the 4500 system to buy a BeoCenter 9500. I regretted that too...(not that I bought the 9500)
So -within the Iast 5 years I have started to buy lots of vintage B&O, as I now have the space for it.
So now I have bought another Beomaster 2400 -and another BeoSystem 4500 (I still have the Beocenter 9500) And I have added a Beosystem 5000 and a System 6500 and a BeoSound 3000. Those are the audio systems i use regularly.
Besides those I now have a collection of receivers and Beograms -just because they look good
Must be this Beovirus

My White RL6000'sthat were unmarked/mint. I got a white beosytem 6500 off Leslie (thanks Leslie) that is MINT. Would have been the perfect match. Never seen another white pair for sale in Australia for 5 years. All the white RL's from O/S ebay sites are all cosmetically faulty.

I haven't even seen white RL6000s on the US site in the time I've been looking at B&O.
There are two things wish I'd kept; firstly my beautiful Form 1 headphones - they lived in their box and were hardly used and their design is still outstanding, and my BeoTime Clock that I bought with my saved up pocket money from the B&O shop in South Moulton Street in London!
Still - we all have to make mistakes to learn!
I regret selling my first Beogram 4000 - it was mint and boxed and I paid £4 for it from a car boot sale.
I sold it for £60 after I'd serviced and repaired it, and began to regret this soon afterwards. However, I REALLY began to regret it about six months later when Hi-Fi World did a vintage article on it and prices for decent used ones shot up to about £300!!
I also regretted giving my first pair of Beovox MS150s to Tim Jarman after I heard them once he'd fettled them. Luckily I found another pair and so we're now both happy owners!
I never regreet selling B&O stuffs, because it were only items I could be without.
But I really regreet I didn't start collecting B&O manu more years ago - then I think I would have completed my intension getting a complete collection of the receivers & amplifiers in the range between 1967 (Beolsystem 5000) and 1980 (BM4400) - but I'm pretty close by now.

True, but Tim has a 4000!!
