Finally got this thing plugged in an powered up now I have a few more technical questions.

First kind of problem I'm having is I'm finding that the tape is getting properly erased before being recorded on so I end up with a bit of an unwanted sound on sound effect. I have attached a photo of the heads, would someone be able to point out the purpose of each component in this section.

also another smallish question, should there be a white soft material below the head to the right of the white one?

Thank

Found a service manual for the 1600 here you will have to sign up on the site to get it, its free. I have here a Beocord 2000 and will start on that one shortly, maybe we can help each other, be patience, more answers will come up, but sometimes it can take a while.

Thank you. Is it the reel to reel one or the cassette deck that you've got?

I've also got a Beocord question.... It's quite simple but I don't want to go at it before I get some advice.

I'm wondering what's the best way to get the black back off the Beocord. I need to open it up but I can't see any screws, etc. Do I need to open it from the front?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

The large aluminium front will come off by prying it away from the top using your fingertips and lifting it off.
You will also find four countersunk screws holding the black backside.

Sorry, is it the same for the 2400? Like Soren's.

No, the above goes for the open reel Beocord 1200 and 1600 only.
The Beocord 2400 is a completely different machine.

I should have mentioned it's the 2400 I'm asking about. Thought it was similar to the 1600 but I see now it's very different. Sorry about that! So maybe you also know how to get into black backing on the 2400?

Thanks.

It has been some time but as far as I remember you do it all from the front.
