I just purchased a 7700 that has not been used for years. The cartridge has been replaced, turntable turns and seems to work fine, but there is no sound. Any idea on where to start troubleshooting?
Do the other sources work?
Peter
The speakers work through the radio. I think the tape deck will need a belt, so I don't know about that.
If the radio works, I suggest that the amplifier is fine. Therefore it is the connection between the record deck and the amplifier. The problems could be:
1. The PH button is not working - does PH light up when the button is pressed?
2. The cartridge is not working - a possibility though unlikely to be both channels.
3. The mute circuit on the record player is stuck - possible if stored for a while I suppose.
4. Break in connection - would be surprised if both channels again.
Does the needle track the record ?Touching the grooves ?
Martin
The PH does light up. When I found out that there was a mute switch when the turntable comes on, I wondered is that could be the problem. I think thta is where I will start.
The needle is tracking on the record.
Try hitting the reset button the the unit. I bought a 7700 that was delivered sight unseen and though I had a basket-case but have since found it to be immaculate 100% working condition after playing around with some weird oddities. Mine exhibited the same symptoms and hitting the "RESET" cleared the programming. If that does not work, lift up the platter and make sure all three large slotted knobs are turned to the clockwise direction.
I tried hitting the reset button to no avail. I did notice when I turn on the Phono, the display shows P4, it could just be that the lower part of the H doesn't light up. I am not quite sure what you mean by making sure the three slotted knobs are turned in the cw direction. Currently they are about four turns from being all the way tight in the cw direction, and the slots are horizontal.
