Hi, this is my first post so please to easy on me! I'm not the most technical of people but I do appreciate good quality. I have a beosound 9000 mk3 and 2 beolab 3's at the moment. I'm moving house soon and would like to add 2 more bl3's to my setup and create a surround sound setup. I don't want multi room, just great sounds for the stereo and tv. The TV I want to connect to is a Panasonic vt30 series tv. Is it possible to have the 9000 playing through all 4 speakers at once? Is it possible to get a surround sound experience from the TV, what do I need to get this system working? Is anyone running 4 bl3's, what do you think of them? I'd prefer not to have to have a separate sub as I can't afford the cost or the space.

Thanks for reading my first post, and my apologies for all the questions. Best regards, Phil

Welcome to the board.

To get surround, you'll need a surround sound processor.  However, the BS9000 can't help because it is 2 channel (unless you're ok with 2 channel vs surround).

The cheapest solution would be to get a digital to analog converter to take the sound out of your TV and connect to the AUX input of the BS9000, but this would still be stereo no matter now many speakers you connect.  You might also have timing issues if the D-to-A introduces any delay in the audio.

I can't really help with surround sound processors.  Mine is built into my TV.

You would need to get a B&O TV with surround sound processor connect BS9000 to it.

I wouldn't recommend the BL3s as rears unless you have BL5 or BL9 in front, they typically don't get that much use.

If you want to stick to the Panasonic, you could try scoring a used Beosystem 3.

Otherwise, check out BL2 and BL11, you will have much more fun with that connecting the TV through aux with the BS9000 then wasting your money on BL3s in your rear.

Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely wanting to keep the Panasonic TV as I really rate it highly. I think the answer is to go for a separate processor to give me the surround sound I want. Is it possible to have the tv and bs9000 supplying an input to a processor, and then connect the speakers to the processor output?

Also, why would you not recommend a 4 x bl3 setup? Bl5's are out of the equation due to cost, so what speakers would you suggest to go with the 2 bl3's I already own?

Thanks again, regards Phil

If you get a processor with two channel inputs, you can easily connect your BS9000 there.

Too long to list....

Hello Phil.

A friend of mine has a BL3 surround setup, which he loves. It lacked a bit sound wise imo, until he added a used BL11. That really freed up the BL3's so they didn't sound so stressed regarding bass output.

The BL3's you are looking to add to your current setup - are you thinking used or new? If you are going for new BL3's, then take a look at some used BL9's. Here in Denmark they are roughly the same price as a new set BL3's.

Also keep in mind that B&O have the Beosystem 4 (also cheaper than the current Beosys 3) on the way, which might push prices for used Beosystem 3 further down.

Regards Jan
